  1. Found this on the web. Side bars; http://www.transportsfriend.org/road/guards.html Rear bars; http://www.transportsfriend.org/road/underrun.html
  2. Go to Footman James, they will charge you about £90 a year fully comp through their Military Vehicle insurance.
  3. What type of Bedford are you after? If you have an HGV then there is no problem, if you haven't then you will only be able to drive an MJ that's been down rated to 7.5ton (assuming you have this category on your licence to drive 7.5ton vehicles) When you buy a truck from Withams they will issue you a MOD 654 form with the vehicle details on it. TOP TIP, make sure you check this form very carefully and make sure the VIN number and other info is correct, if it's not DVLA wont register it. Get the insurance first and use the full VIN number in place of the registration number (as it wont have one yet) They will send out a cover note so that you can prove it's insured. Book it in for a private HGV MOT at VOSA. Once it's got an MOT hand in your completed V55 into DVLA along with the first registration fee and £165 for the road tax. When they register it you will be given an authorization form to get the number plates made up and they will also give you the tax disc. As soon as it's registered call your insurance company and tell them what the reg number is and they will issue you a certificate. Bobs your uncle.:cool2:
  4. Hi Dave, Welcome to the forum. I'm also in Oxfordshire (Didcot). Where are you located? Nice to see someone keeping the rare old stuff going!! Keep up the good work.
  5. There is an Explorer for sale here. I've seen it and it looks a very nice truck. http://www.milweb.net/webverts/50518/
  6. Got about an inch here today, but it was all gone by 15.00hrs...:-(
  7. Cool, that comes in very handy if you need to build more homes for your vehicles...:-D
  8. Hello mate, Welcome. Where abouts in NY? I was in Manhattan for a week a few weeks ago. Did you get any snow with the second storm that came in the night we flew out from JFK?
  9. Matt, If you get no luck with that, you can try Milbiz. I was chatting to the owner and he might have storage available inside an aircraft hangar. He is based at RAF Wroughton South of Swindon, not far from you. http://www.milbiz.co.uk/ Worth a go if all else fails.
  10. I'm always impressed by the depth of knowledge you guys have on this forum...:wow: You have eyes like a hawk Neil...:cool2:
  11. Hello Colin, I take it you are a farmer mate? I would KILL for facilities and barn like yours, you are very lucky. If you are looking for a truck driver, can you offer me a job, and then that would enable me to get sponsorship to come down under, but of course, I would need to bring my toys with me!!!!:cool2::-D Great looking projects and vehicles by the way!!
  12. The tank in the movie is an Israeli modification of a captured Soviet T55, re-designated as the Ti-67. It's fitted with the 105mm main gun instead of the stock 100mm gun. Many of these conversions were used in the 1973 war against Egypt. The tanks were purchased from IDF officers by the director of the film over drinks in a Tel Aviv hotel. The machine gun was actually an M2 Browning .50 dressed up to look like DShK. Spot on Bazz Info courtesy of Wikipedia.
  13. If the trucks picking them up were white MAN 6x2's then yes, as these are Withams low loaders.
  14. The question must be, who HASN'T seen this film? It's one of my favorite films and shows the T55 in all it's glory. Here is the opening scene courtesy of You Tube. Enjoy. Warning not for young viewers!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5izT7mBvE8U
  15. Hi Dirk, The Bedford MJ is a very good, old fashioned work horse that has few faults apart from being slow. The fuel consumption is very good considering how low geared the truck is. I worked out I'm getting 16mpg out of mine, not sure what this is in Km's. ALL Bedfords smoke like hell. I think it's just the engine design being a pretty old one. Once mine is warmed up the smoke is hardly noticeable.
  16. And yet there is a car near my house that hasn't turned a wheel in about a year and a half with a tax disc over a year out of date and yet it's still there, on a public street and hasn't had so much as a ticket!!
  17. If that was the case then the equipment would be removed prior to arriving at Withams. I've seen the many Ptarmigan vehicles stripped of their Clark masts, gennys, comms boxes etc and these have been sold seperately.
  18. Hello Tim, Very nice truck there, good choice (I also have one). Out of interest, what do you do in Alberta?
  19. Welcome to the forum SEGREQ, I too am a Landy owner. Nice looking 90 you have there. I too am looking forward to War and Peace.:-D
  20. Just got back from the States yesterday. I'd move out there in a heart beat. Fantastic place. Texas is the State you want if you want a REAL .50cal in your gun mount!!!:cool2: Get out there as soon as possible, you wont regret it.
  21. I've heard they are based on the GMC Duel wheel pick up truck. They have got a GMC 6.2 litre engine and at the price they want for them, would be worth buying if you wanted the engine and tranny.
  22. Hopefully see you there mate. I will come over and say Hi unless you do it first!!:-D
