  1. At least with the 432s they have ample previous history of registering them. Anything more exotic might be a bit harder... Good to hear the vehicles that have been through the upgrade programs are coming out though - with dieselisation they're much more attractive vehicles. Stone

  5. Coke is just dilute phosphoric acid - you can buy stronger / purer quite easily. Mostly depends on what's to hand, I suspect! Sodium hydroxide (caustic soda) is supposed to be good for surface-prep of aluminum; not sure what you're supposed to do with the nasty wasteproduct though...? Stone

  8. They are lovely beasts, the James Bond-esque missile rack I always found immensely satisfying :-D Do you find the passenger's missile sights get in the way when you're driving? They look like they stick out a fair way and the Russians never seemed too fussed about the driver's visibility...(driving the Gvozdika is an exercise in neck-craning and clairvoyance as you have a socking great gun barrel in the way!) What parts in particular are hard to get hold of? I've always fancied one of these as a backstop in case I don't have space for anything tracked... Stone

  11. Have a read of INF52 (link) - if you can't find an exemption in there that applies to you then yes, you will need category C on your licence. As the Stolly came into service in 1966 you can't use age as an exemption - the one a lot of people here use is 'mobile project vehicles' but you'd need a lawyer to dig through the requirements for that :nut: Stone

Well done, it's good when it goes your way For the record I found the Borehamwood office pretty helpful, they just don't give the counter staff much leeway to think for themselves so you're reliant on how keen their management are.   20. You could also try Line-X who make a similar product. They were handing out business-card sized blocks of the stuff at DSEI last year and it certainly looked the part! It bent a surprising amount before cracking so it would presumably take a hell of a beating to peel off. Stone

  22. You'd have to have pretty good nerves to want to dance up there, it gets pretty windy and it's a long way up! Don't forget that the hatch in the roof is composite (think it's GRP) and so not weight-bearing - you'd just crack it and end up in the cab with a broken leg. The checkerplate is only a small section around the outside of the round hatch, so you'd probably want to weld a solid plate onto the frame over the hatch (leaving the hatch on) and then get on top of it from the bed - you can use the 'windows' in the front of the bed as crude steps. Also bear in mind most of them have been overloaded in the past and the checkerplate is unlikely to be flat! Stone

  24. Framptons are the experts, they have lots of choice of fonts for different eras. Give them a ring, they're really helpful (and did us some beautiful pressed aluminium plates for the MJ). Website link Stone
