  1. I can think of at least one I wouldn't buy anything more complicated than a spanner from. Then again, the price would probably suggest that it was a spanner lovingly handcrafted, by elves, from purest unobtanium and personally blessed by Elvis. There's no stopping some people, yes buy low and sell high but their Milweb listings are taking the urine! Stone
  2. Nowt, we just needed somewhere to sit and fix stuff/have tea breaks/play on the Xbox while we're on trials. It needed to be 4x4 and have desks with sockets and an aircon so that would be perfect! The Beddycopter's not going anywhere Stone
  3. Turns out we might be getting a new trials van after all! :cool2: It'd be a hell of a lot better than the £80k we were quoted for a converted Merc Sprinter. Now I just need to convince the top brass... I know the RB44s had a terrible in-service reputation, but how are they when treated gently? Need a lot of fettling? Stone
  4. Funnily enough it looks almost identical to the Northrup X-47B :cool2: UAVs are great, hopefully one day they'll let me play! Stone
  5. Here's a tip for you then; In 'Internet' hit the 'Menu' button, then 'More', then scroll down and hit 'Settings'. Untick 'Mobile View' and you have the desktop version of all those sites, on your phone Stone
  6. There were never any radios in ours - they all went in the box body. I've got a full set of manuals and mod instructions and not seen any instructions for cab mountings - doesn't mean it never happened though! Stone
  7. That would have come in very handy 2 years ago when we were hunting out a new trials vehicle...! Stone
  8. There's a few more here. I like this one: I've seen a fair few MTLBu converted for civil use too. Stone
  9. There's a decent slipway at South Woodham Ferrers, not too far from you... (here). Last time I was there I think they had a sign up saying only members of the boat club could use the concreted side of the slipway into the water but it was free for all if you could get in and out unassisted on the muddy side. I suspect the OT would manage just fine Stone
  10. Why would you need mooring? You can just drive off in it I'd be up for registering something Russian (not sure they made anything much that won't float!) - you'd struggle to get most things in and out of a canal, but rivers would work fine... Stone
  11. Found the answer for the launch tube in here (page 28) but nothing on missiles - I guess I'll have to ask the Proof Houses about them. Actually that document's dead useful - maybe worth putting a copy in the Reference Documents section on here? Stone
  12. Ouch, yes, that was something I'd like to avoid! Looking it up it did seem a bit odd (usual Daily Mail disclaimer), presumably they were most bothered about the Luger... I work in countermeasures so it'd make a lovely display to have a launcher and a de-tubed missile as a wall hanger in the study. I'd like to rig something up like a hidden joystick to waggle the control surfaces :nut: I think I'll have to read the legislation, I'm pretty sure removing the explosive fill and thermal battery aren't going to be enough...I assume I'd have to render each missile unable to fly as well. Stone
  13. Since there's so much expertise here I'll ask rather than trawl through the legislation: What's the appropriate deactivation spec for man-portable surface-to-air missile systems? I'm sure getting it done to UK spec will triple the cost but they start off cheap in Poland It would be imported already deactivated to the appropriate EU spec. Stone
  14. Lots of info in this thread. Never got round to doing it to ours though! Stone
  15. I wouldn't rely on them at all, of the three we got with our vehicle from Withams only one tested good. At least we have a Health and Safety dept with budget to buy new ones, though they never replaced the one that went off when the pin got caught in a cam net  Stone
  16. All true, but then again how do you decide what class it goes in? The rules are different for each class, different allowable widths etc - it seems that you can still register all this stuff fine provided the DVLA office put it in the right class, but if they say it's in a class that it can't meet the regs for then you're stuck. Also it's an absolute nightmare working out what rules apply to what. I bought a printed copy of the C&U regs 1986 as they're not on the OPSI website (that starts at 1987) - not only is it a pretty intimidating document, but the Acts in force are all 'as amended'. Taking as a random example the "Road Vehicles (Construction and Use)(Amendment)(No. 4) Regulations 2005", how helpful is it's enough to drive you completely mad! :nut: The sooner someone gives out some funding to produce a website giving the current, amended regulations for everything the better. Even a mechanism by which you could buy a printed copy of the amended regs would be a vast improvement on the current state of things. Frankly I'm amazed anyone actually buys any of these vehicles without being able to check up on this stuff in advance. Stone

    Swiss secrets

Wow, they really have one of everything! I liked the 'Pioneer' M113, not seen one of those before. Stone
  18. I've poked around the real thing before and it certainly made me look twice, so good effort Stone
  19. Nice video The DVLA entry for AAB 960A says 'NO BODY TYPE DEFINED' so it seems to me the overall theme is not to fill in all the bits of the form...? Stone

    What is it?

You're completely right, I'll uncross my eyes now :nut:
  21. Nope, North :rotfl: Then again it was made in America, that probably explains why the (North Korean) patriotic / propaganda announcements (to the South Koreans) in the background are in...English! Go Hollywood! *facepalm*
  22. Not bad for all of 10 seconds screen time then I only tended towards Fox as I knew they were an 'official' variant. The only ones I've ever seen in the flesh are the Peak Engineering ones. Stone
  23. I didn't think this was right, so I asked a mate, this was his reply: He's as secret squirrel as they come, so I reckon the NZ explanation holds a lot more weight. [edited to add the following extra: ] Stone
  24. My view? I hate it. The forum works perfectly well on my (Android) phone using the web browser - except now it gives me a popup alert box to dismiss on EVERY PAGE saying 'This forum is Tapatalk Native!!!!11!1! :nut:!!!!". Which makes it too frustrating to use, especially when they're only notifying you in the hope you'll give them money! So I'll only be posting from my desktop until it goes or I find a workaround to turn it off. Could you at least add a 'don't mention the Tapatalk thing' option to the UCP? It would be fine if it was something your cookie could disable. Stone
