  1. Ford WOT2. Acceleration good, Brakes stop if pushed hard enough, Steering a but heavy but not as bad as a Champ, Leaks water in the rain, cruises at 45mph on a motorway but it's noisy, will pull away at 15mph in top. However, only does 10 to a gallon. Ford WOA2. Accelerates like a normal car, steering light and tends to wander, Brakes you have to get used to (If you hit them suddenly it swerves, too hard and it locks the wheels), cruises at 55mph on a motorway and you can still talk to your passenger. I get 12 to a gallon. Both get attention on the road, and are fun to drive. Once you get used to working on a Ford V8, they are great vehicles to own.
  2. It's American, 1944/45, and I think it was their first jet fighter - prototype only. Can't remember the model or manufacturer, but I think it was Bell. This photo looks like a reproduction machine in USA. Anyone else help?
  3. I used to get 15mpg from my Champ. Mind you, it did spend a lot of time in London and the M4.
  4. Is it a seat for a Mule for casualty evacuation?
  5. There should be another Liberation tour in Guernsey in 2010, which is a good time to visit Guernsey. They are very friendly people and getting there is very easy from Weymouth or Poole, but you can fly there from Heathrow or Eastleigh.
  6. Just had it confirmed from a French friend. Alain Roudeix died 2 months ago, and his collection is being sold in November.
  7. I owned a Champ once. Pros - It's British, the engine's very good, it has 5 reverse gears, on bumpy tracks it is very stable. Cons - It won't hold the road in the wet, it leaks oil from the back axle, it's very heavy to steer, the 2 speed generators have a tendancy to lock up. They are great fun over bumpy or rocky tracks, and stay very level. However, I found that on wet tarmac they didn't grip the road at all. If you get one, check the back axle oil level regular and often. The engine can look after itself.
  8. Sorry but I'm out of the country on Wednesday (Holiday in Normandy). If anyone else is doing anything similar in the future, I would be very happy to come along. Robert Davey
  9. Some years ago (8 actually), my Daughter was doing WW1 in History at School. When they got to the Somme Battles, she asked about the Pals battalions as I had told her about them and the impact they had in events. The Teacher had never heard of Pals battalions. Also, in WW1, anti-Jewish semitism was in the British Army. You could join the Army under another name to avoid a Jewish name. If you look at the Menin Gate, there are names with alternatives.
  10. I do know that the Central line extension from, I beleive, Liverpool Street Eastwards was built pre-War but not opened until Post-War and it was used as an air-raid selter in Wartime.
  11. Their not Champ, as these were square.
  12. I've never had an Email from the MVT about anything.
  13. The Jeeps have got sidelights fitted and look very tired. Therefore my guess is Suez 1956.
  14. What - A Jeep and a bigger vehicle. Jeep could be British, so I'd say the bigger vehicle is a staff car with a Senior Officer in it? Where - Looks like Italy, or at least the Med. When - 1944?
  15. The box is well constructed using Oak with a brass plaque. My guess is that it is for transporting cremated remains back to England? A plastic bag and a laminated sign make me think this is a Post war item - about 1950/60?
  16. My family won't watch a War film with me because I criticise all the mistakes. I must have the disease as well...... Also, it affects your children. My oldest is an A&E Nurse and can't watch 'Casualty' as she critisises this as I criticise War films.
  17. OK, I was at W&P this year, and I took both my British WW2 vehicles, a Ford WOT2 and a WOA2 (for the first time). I didn't take part in the Parade, as it originally involved driving outside the Hop Farm, and I wanted to video both the British vehicles and also the German vehicles who were parading later. Had I known it was changed to just the site, I would have taken part. Also, I was going to get involved in an Arena event featuring British vehicles, but this was scheduled for Friday, and I decided against this after the rain and a look at the mud in the arena at mid-day. I think there is not a shortage of British WW2, it's just that W&P attracts many enthusists from the continent, and they all seem to have American vehicles. You just had to search and find them amongst the rest of the entrants. At the Trucks & Troops show at Beaulieu in May, British soft skin was prevelant.
  18. I am a memnber of the Aldershot Militaria Society, and the annual exhibition is this Sunday 23rd Sept at the Maltings in Farnham. There are Sales stands there, so you should be able to find the stripes you need. Exhibition starts at 10:30.
  19. It looks like a track for mining trucks, and the hut an unloading area, with whatever is in the trucks dropping down. Any closer to the truth?
  20. You are lucky. In the Reading area they don't want to know about MVs helping with the Poppy appeal.
  21. Just a long shot - anything to do with tunnelling in WW1 when they had to be careful about disposing of the chalk, and this was the chute to transfer from the tunnel mouth to railway trucks?
  22. I contacted the scammer and asked if the Jeep was an Original Hotchkiss or a Ford copy. Here is his reply. Hello, This is a genuine Hotchkiss I am selling this car for £2200 including delivery anywhere in UK. I think this is a low price but i need cash for a family emergency. I have to tell you that I'm currently out of town with some major problems so pick up/view isn't an option. If you want to buy this vehicle email me back with your full name and address to start the official procedure trough eBay. They will send you a notification with ALL the info regarding delivery, purchase protection and refund policy so please provide your details before more questions. You will find 90% of answers in that notification from eBay! Thank you!
  23. Narrow gauge railway engine shed or workshop?
  24. I have 2 of these tyres on my WOT2, and both of these do not have 'Sand' on them either. Strange....
