  1. Evening Ian, Its funny somebody asked for a view on this trailer last week. I have a photo of it "on file". It was for sale on Milweb in 2010 for £1500. This is a photo from then: Lots of nice original fittings but is it original style body? We know that "never say never" with British 10 cwt trailers, but I've not seen exactly that style body before on any other trailers. It almost looks as though it was made to copy the enclosed wheel style of the Lightweight repair trailers, whereas we'd normally expect a narrower body and mudguards on wooden trailers.
  2. Anthony, Similar to first design of WWII Airborne pintle, but bolt pattern does not match those original ones I've seen on Mk1 NoI 10 cwt lightweight trailers. Photo below for reference:
  3. Yes taking the Chevrolet C60 s Wrecker. We went 5 years ago and we had a great time
  4. They look like engine mounts. Scroll down this page to see some I've used: http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?27455-British-WWII-REME-Lightweight-Electrical-Repair-Trailer-Restoration-Project/page20
  5. Thanks Terry, I've decided to fit a 6 volt SU Pump, hidden under the chassis.
  6. Afternoon James, Thanks and we really did need this "replacement" jnc
  7. Thanks Pete, We had wondered about that option. Interesting that you've successfully installed them in Chevs. Will investigate further.
  8. Getting the NOVA letter from Customs & Excise and then applying for a historic registration from DVLA all went remarkably smoothly. The Chev has a nice new set of black/polished aluminium plates. While waiting for the bureaucratic wheels to turn I sourced some magnetic Hi-Vis signage for the back of the truck. Having been at the scene of two very serious RTC's where modern vans/cars have driven into friend's vehicles, I am very alert to the risk of driving slow vehicles in modern traffic. The next safety measure is to fit a Xenon flashing amber beacon (12v from a separate battery) We took the truck out for its first UK outing in more than 70 years on Saturday. Thanks to James Baxter and James Gosling for helping to get it started and acting as "escort" in the HUP. As the engine hadn't been started for three weeks, all the petrol had drained back into tank, and on an icy morning the 6v battery struggled to pump up enough fuel and then start the engine. On my Jeep I have a fuel pump with manual primer lever, but not on this Chev. Photo shows the pump fitted. Is there an pump option for the Chev 216 engine with manual primer? As I believe this will greatly help starting
  9. I insured my "new" Chevrolet with Hagertys in October....BUT the major issue is that they will provide recovery for vehicles of more than 3.5T. Apart from that I would recommend them as good value and whole process was very professional. I went to Hagertys because I was very impressed with the way they dealt with Andy Mitchell's little issue with his Ford in Normandy in June. I explained that there was a need to heavier recovery in the MV market, but they said they had no plans to extend beyond 3.5T max But I still would like to find a company that will provide recovery as part of the package for the heavier vehicles (I know I can separately buy classic truck recovery) I have just spoken to Cherished Vehicle Insurance, because they have been mentioned on this and other threads. While they don't currently provide the heavier recovery, the very helpful call centre operator explained that they realised there is a gap in the market and that they would be introducing recovery for my weight truck (~5 tonnes) early in the new year and suggested I called back then once it had commenced to get a quote.
  10. Yes, I think that is exactly right. A local fix for some problem that needed a means of spraying liquid. I hadn't considered de-icer, but that would have worked well.
  11. None I can find. So I guess it is a standard AM can with a cap that has been unofficially customised.
  12. Evening Richard, Could be. While pressurised petrol stoves normally have their own reservoir perhaps this was for a larger stove? The top conversion looks quite well designed and built, not something just cobbled together.
  13. Maybe Tony, I really don't know but the soldered valve in the lid looks to be from an inner tube, so I'm still guessing the intention was to "charge" the can with air pressure for some reason
  14. Could be, but the pressure is provided by pumping through the valve
  15. Picked this up today. Fairly standard AM 2 gallon can made in 1941, but the unusual (well to me anyway) is the special cap. As the photos show, it has been adapted to enable the can to be pressurised so that the contents are then ejected through the second pipe under pressure. I'm guessing this was attached to a rubber hose to fill something with fuel. Does anyone know more about this type of can? Thanks
  16. An interesting old trailer, but not in my view, based on a military type. As Ian has suggested it looks to be civilian. 1940's vintage? If you do use it on the road with any weight, it will be worth replacing the coach bolts currently holding the hitch on with some suitable high tensile bolts. The military 10 cwts used large BSF threaded bolts for the job.
  17. Evening Robin, Yes, I do remember and that you were very fair on the prices when passing them on. When I was looking for a spare plate early last year, the "going rate" on Ebay was about £80. The latest price just shows that there is a demand for them. Cheers
  18. That's been the Ebay going rate for a while now. Easily refurbished to one that now some will pay £187 for......
  19. The domed centre of the wheel ended up damaging itself and the chains against the top block?
  20. Such as keeping hands well clear of the suspended tyre rim? (last photo)
  21. It is well made with an accurate "feel". As far as it being "too Disney"....well it is an advert for general viewing. Suspect the piece of cloth on the barbed wire was a small reference to the reality. My wife and teenage children all thought it was excellent. Best of all is that RBL will benefit.
