  1. I have a tool like the one pictured (with adapters) but it's a pain to use, so I bought one of these: http://sealey.co.uk/PLPageBuilder.asp?gotonode=ViewProduct&method=mViewProduct&productid=10081&productdescription=&productcode=&category=6&catgroup=122&catmicrogroup=1087&analysiscode=&requiredresults=16 Much easier to use. Shop around and you should get one for a lot less money too.
  2. If you haven't got the 654 you'll never get one. You can request a merlin report from the mod using a freedom of information request, which will have the chassis number, date in service and the units it was issued to. We've had a few vehicles without a 654 and registered one last year using the merlin report and a verification letter from the MVT.
  3. Nick, What dating evidence do you have? Have you got the Merlin Report from the MOD? Verification letter from the MVT? Chris
  4. Of course it is possible, and people do. I'm not sure who would be prepared to pay someone with no experience to restore expensive vehicles though.
  5. Some photos of mine. These are the mirrors it was fitted with in service, however they are not the best for driving alone!
  6. There are a lot of younger vehicle owners. I don't think younger members are interested in joining in with running clubs, getting involved in committees etc.
  7. Before you take it for the mot have a quick search on Google for the list of what they check and go through it yourself.
  8. Barry, I would expect the hull number to be more like 79 than 9? Given the registration number is 02FD76 and the earliest number I know of is 01FD96. Chris
  9. Guy - no reason why you can't shorten the dip stick yourself, I have heard of others doing it. Chris
  10. Guy, All the petrol gearboxes have the dipstick which goes through the bulkhead. Diesel gearboxes have a smaller dipstick which is held in place with a clip and doesn't go through the bulkhead. Is there not a piece of hose connecting the 2 metal tubes? Chris
  11. The registration letters relate to the year the order was placed, not necessarily built.
  12. Tim, I had a bag of them but they are all gone except the one I have yet to put on my scimitar. If I remember I'll measure it for you before I put it on. You should be able to make one from some webbing. Chris
  13. I don't have any of the older CES documents here, but I believe it was called a Beresford Funnel or something like that? Clive you're the expert on military sanitation.. am I right?
  14. Some of it in 2013 at Withams...
  15. 02FD76 lives on, and even belongs to a forum member!
  16. Hi Guy, I've had 3 Sabres, 2 Spartans, a Scimitar, Sultan and a Sturgeon. Other than the Sultan which was ex-Belgian army all the others were/are fitted with the central warning system light pod and were purchased direct from the MoD between 2004 and 2014. If the lights were removed in 1983 they were definitely put back on! Chris
  17. The central warning system light pod was not removed and is still fitted to vehicles in service now.
  18. No fuel bag in a Samson! (Or Spartan, striker, sultan, Samaritan)
  19. You could try these: http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=171596073252 Chris
