  1. You want to get yourself a Scammell Andy, they are so much fun to drive you know:D
  2. just pop in to your nearest farmer/Bus depot/haulage firm/garage/boatyard ect and ask where they get their oils from:-D
  3. I think there is one of a MAN towing one and it slams into another MAN...
  4. I just get mine from my local oil supplier, Ask for a straight 90 with no EP additives safe to use with phospher bronze. Its just engine oil really. Straight 140 in the rear axle ( although some use a 90 / 140 in the rear and i know someone who uses 140 in everything front to rear except the engine of course
  5. It's got an Aluminium windscreen in it too... That would be nice...
  6. I love a story with a happy ending:D Did you have a good think what to put in the can or just grab what was to hand?
  7. I only paid £2500 for mine and i drove that 4 miles up to the house! I know i've done a lot of work to it but it was in better nick than that turd:shocked:
  8. I might have some panel switches. I have several gear sticks but not sure if its the straight one that you need from a series 3 that only has the bend at the bottom? I would imagine the gear gate pattern on the knob has worn off all of them though but you are more than welcome to have one if it helps. You might be lucky with the key side of things, Land rover sometimes didn't snap the tamper proof heads off the bolts securing the steering lock to the coloum. If they have, use a good pointy punch and tap them round to undo. I think a new ignition lock / barrel is about £100 though:embarrassed: But at least you can get it shifted
  9. Option 1 set up a camera to try and catch then in the act then go to plod. Or leave some bait, Like a full petrol can out in sight and stay the night. If he comes pilfering show him a crowbar across the back of his hand.
  10. Oh Bless:embarrassed: If it was just a bit closer to home i Could put it on a trailer and bring i home.......To my gas axe and cut the Good bits out for mine:evil:
  11. Hmmm. I could use the back axle but it's to far away...Still wondering if a pioneer one will fit instead:cool2:
  12. Well good luck, Do keep us posted every interesting step of the way with plenty of pictures. As i said before its my dream truck so i will be glued to your restoration. Could you start a restoration blog on it for us? And if you do get stuck i could have a word with Bill and sort of pre warn him so he knows what your about. Like yourself he has built many recovery units and has two of these Fodens Again, ...May the force be with you:)
  13. Yes post us a list of bits we might be able to shorten it for you.....:-D
  14. What a lucky bloke you are owning my dream toy. I have Foden envy:-D
  15. My mate Bill has just done exactly the same thing as you. His was slightly better nick to start with than yours but he also fitted a new cab. Have you got the remote boxes with it? He has two Fodens now and uses them for general work. I've seen him with busses and all sorts on suspend tow with them. They are a tad top heavy but so are most off road worthy recovery trucks. I hope you enjoy this beast to the max. If you want his web site address is http://hesletonrecovery.co.uk/default.aspx He should be able to offer some advice if you need it. Dont worry if he sounds off with you on the phone he's not good on telephones. A top bloke with two sons in the REME i think.
  16. I'd have a look at the regulator box first. Google Lucas or Bosch regulator box testing and you should be able to get a good idea how they work even if its not a lucas or Bosch unit. they are very easy to set up and test don't be afraid of them they look very complicated at first but its just a load of old electrical switches. ~Batteries are funny things I've had the same thing happen to me failed start then give it a go in passing and it starts.:nut: Don't forget the simple check of all the connections before you do anything first;)
  17. Keep an eye on that radiator core.....The fins are on their way out. Its got years left in it and probrobley never leak you'll just loose some efficency over time
  18. Nice....I like that...SO simple yet so efective:)
  19. Might be a tad wet in there without the screen:rofl:
  20. The engine goes in the front not in the cab!!
  21. How's the compressor on the cummins? Does it keep up with the steering ok when your shunting round? It looked a tad smaller than the huge motor bike engine bolted to the meadows> Oh and what happened to the drivers windscreen?
  22. Nothing really...Its just got no lineing left on it. I was going to get it done when i looked at the rear brakes an hub seals but the brakes were like new so i never sent them off. Now it just keeps slipping down the list of things to do. You want to have a go at gear shifting on the jake brake instead of the clutch brake, It souds great.....
