  1. Yeah well done Andy but you really need to get out more....maybe into your shed...with your scammell:cool2:
  2. Must be a special edition with a 50 tonne winch and a 14 liter engine...get it bought someone... If thats £5000 Younguns must be worth about £30,000.....
  3. Or better still, to avoid any chance of catching fire and blowing up and also to make the thing slightly reliable fit a diesel engine in it.....I would suggest a Detriot 6 71....... Something went wrong...
  4. I'm pretty sure the clutch was ok when i had it out. Its the original unsprung center plate and in good nick too... It must have run for years with nothing holding the rear output flange on so who knows what funny wear patterns have occured....
  5. Mine also missing, no leaks, There is a felt seal inside the gear case keeping the oil in. I think the ones that are missing on ours are split an can be fitted easily. I just oil the beam pivot more often..
  6. Ahh well....I looks like it might be time to invest in some ear defenders then...:nut:
  7. Right then Fellow Scammell owners.......My gearbox is silent in operation in through all the gears until the top gear is selected...then the whining starts..and it's loud and as we accelerate through 23 mph its bloody unbearable then it gently subsides back down to a gentle scream... So, any thoughts? Is it something that can easily be repaired..Why is it just one gear? Am i likely to strip it all down find a load of horrors that can't be fixed easily and wish I'd left it? or spend weeks lovingly rebuilding it to find it still makes a row in top......Your thoughts please....:-D
  8. And i look forward to seeing yours sometime in the next 50 years Andy.....
  9. He put it right on its side at slab common i think a good few years ago.. He's not holding back there is he, just shows how tough they are when you remember that's 12 tons bouncing about and dropping into pot holes. I feel more confident about driving mine gently down a smooth road after seeing that...
  10. And his wife bakes the best cakes ever...loads of them....had lots of bits of him for my explorer. I think he still has a good meadows petrol engine for sale. First met him years ago when i stuffed out crane in a ditch....
  11. One feels you could sell your London home and buy a smallholding in the country with sheds and your own off road course and still have some cash left over for Constructor....:-)
  12. no worries there red wine has that effect....what happened with that digger then?..
  13. It was all the revving that got me...And the many attempts to pull ot over with even more revving. Pure showboating, it would have pulled it the first time, All he was doing was putting on a show. And to be honest it was a good show. I bet he felt really silly after, looking down at his super fantastc king of a tow truck that can pull anything. i wonder how he's going to earn a living now...
  14. i guess he didnt know what had happened untill the hook clattered on the end of the boom waking him up and making him jump. but if you read previous posts he was safe enough winch wires only attack metal inanimate objects not humans From what i saw the winch wire did'nt attack anybody in that video. looked to be well within its rating as the winch was still pulling and not on the relief valve. Now then.....the ****ty rigging that fastened the winch wire to the truck. that could kill someone, but not the winch wire or the winching opperation. If he had fastened to the axle with an overspec chain or round sling he could pull till the winch stalled then sit on the cable and think about his next move...
  15. You will notice the stabilizer legs are still stowed on the truck. Foolish error number two. Foolish error number one was attempting the job in an area where it's impossible to extend the outriggers. I have turned down many many craning jobs because i cant fully rig the crane. Even though our crane can down rate and run free on rubber it must only be done with the outriggers extended just clear of the ground...
  16. It looks like as usual its point of attachment that's let go not the cable. Bloody close though. Those front fixings look like they should only be used for straight pulling forwards to me.
  17. I posted this on face book to a friend who really fancies one with the Quote "Shame you don't know any Russian generals Who could make some disappear" He got a message from a Russian mate saying " I know a Russian General" How much you willing to pay:shocked:
  18. They just didn't have enough people wandering around as the truck was pulled over. that one bloke had to rush round and jump on both recovery trucks and he had to walk past both winch cables on his own....Now if all those people that appeared after had been there before, they could have positioned themselves under the trailer to slow its decent. also need to get some more smoke and fumes from the knackerd engine just to help your eyes run a bit more......
  19. Yep all seems well. there are two holes in the prop shaft flange casting that you can see said bolt through and poke your finger in to make sure it's still tight:D
  20. Can we make this thread sticky cos its hard to find:embarrassed:
  21. And the gearbox disaster work around.....Use loctite 660 on the splines to stop the baggy vibrating it all to bits...
  22. just thought i would pop this Rear axle modification on here. Basically a 1/2 bsp pipe fashioned into a scoop fitted into the worm housing part of the axle case with a pipe to take the oil under gravity to the rear bearing to provide extra lube. Only do this if you have run out of oil pump options and its all smashed to bits. I will let you know how it fairs after many miles.... Never know it might keep another knackerd old scammell on the road...
