  1. I have two of them, One is a telescopic two stage one. good jacks
  2. Perhaps its the jeeps owner on the bonnet of a relative and thats what they wanted. He can do what he likes with his jeep for all i care its only a car and before you go shouting insults get your facts right......
  3. Hope the grounds not too boggy.... A Foden EKA is about as light footed and nimble as an elephant in high heels...
  4. What happened with the digger?....Any joy any pictures...
  5. cheers for that i don't know why i went down the complicated pump route in the first place. Found a piccy of the oil jet holes Looks like i might have to drill one or both of them out to get a decent size scoopy thing in there. I'll try one first and see how much gushes out. There's nothing better than sitting under a Scammell explorer on jacks with the whole thing whirring away in top gear thinking "if this falls off now" or "wow......that propshaft is rather scary..." Point also given to anybody who can spot the inside of their Scammell back axle in the picture..
  6. It'll be just fine if i can pull it off. It only need to a dribble to keep the bearings wet. I just need to figure out some oil scoop fittings. Has anybody got any pictures of the oil jet holes with the pinion removed?.....
  7. Right back in now and i looks like it's possible. I will need to remove the plate on the side of the axle that holds the oil cooler and also has the pipe fittings on for the feed from the oil pump and to the oil jet holes. I am hoping that when i remove this plate i will find the two oil jet holes looking at me and all the oil ways are in the plate i will have removed. I might even be able to use both oil jet holes to provide a feed.... The bottom of the oil pump case is about two or three inches lower than the oil jet holes but we only need a dribble don't we. Just think how much grease is in your wheel bearings on your car......... I will keep you informed of the progress when i pull my finger out. Anybody had that oil cooler plate off whats under it......I might even drill the axle case......
  8. BLOODY HELL I'VE JUST HAD A EUREKA MOMENT........ Without going out to check i think i might have cracked it.... Here's my plan.......Bugger to pumping oil to the pinion i'm more concerned about the rear pinion bearings. So hows about this......There must be a hell of a lot of oil gushing round the top of the axle casing near the pinion right? all being flung off the worm and wheel? And it's got to be running down the inside of the casing where the pinion oil jet holes are..... So what if i drilled out one of the oil jet holes (if nessary, How big are they?) and then poked a sort of scoop through in to the worm cavity like a pipe cut into a U shape at the end.....I could then feed the oil that is caught by this "scoop thingy" under gravity to the casing where the oil pump was and thus keep the back bearing fed with oil!!!!! No moving parts no stupid pumps.....nothing but good old reliable gravity.....It's got to work....I'm going for a look outside right now.....in the dark:-D
  9. So whats the opinion regards running without an oil pump? Some people have run for years without a functioning oil pump in their axle. Other say not to go anywhere without a pump, Some say there is a good splash of oil when running. Another bloke had one fail but can't say how long it ran before he noticed it had failed but it must have been hundreds of miles towing a living van, His axle survived........ That's the problem with forums eh? any thoughts?:nut:
  10. took the Scammell out for a spin today and had a nice blast flat out to the beach to walk the dog, Got to car park and my axle oil pump system was not pumping. Anyway walked dog the drove home and found pump still not working:embarrassed: On removing the suction pipe from the pump with the engine running i found no suction at all. I then sucked the oil up the pipe to the pump and squirted oil into the pump with an oil can and quickly bunged the pipe back on.....nothing happened, In fact the oil drained back down the pipe with the pump running.....The pump is goosed:cry: I'm back to plan F now.....Jack up scammell put it in top gear and sit under it looking to see if any oil is passed through the back brearings. If oil appears it's going without a pump for now. I am still looking for an axle oil pump to put in the axle so if you know of one drop me a line, I also need the gears to turn it cos they were chewed up too...... Should have bought a Millitant........
  11. hi there....Its not the same lightweight they had as a project in one of the land rover mags many years ago is? That was called rattle and hum too.......
  12. Good lord..A pile of old tapes! Can you still find things to play them in? Open the doors remove the bolts along the rear of the tub and any other fixings ect and then sort of hinge the tub up so you can get to the top of the chassis. I think you need to remove the bolts holding the sils on to. Then you can tack it in place and hinge the tub back down to check the fit. you might need to slacken the bolts behind the seats to let it hinge. Just nip them up when you are checking the fit with the tub down.
  13. Another sad case happend up my way, A farmers jcb ran out of fuel on a country lane so he left it in the dark to get a jerry can of fuel. In the meantime a car plouged into it and the driver was killed. The farmer went to prison for not leaving any lights on or warning signs...
  14. Whats wrong with the Land rover light weight? They have the same running gear as a normal landy and with the 2 1/4 petrol should be good for about 50mph easily 65 with an overdrive. I don't drive with a huge sign on the back of my landy in fact any land rover i've owned and the other ones were dark green (not bright yellow like the current one) I don't think it makes a blind bit of difference how flashing bright orange your vehicle is if the guy behind is asleep/ fiddling with his radio/ or just daydreaming your going to get hit.. Hell my mate got rear ended twice in 6 months on the M5 by sleeping lorry drivers....He was stopped in a queue in the middle lane on both occasions and both times the sleeping artic driver drove straight up the back of his low loader covered in flashing beacons then slid off said low loader slamming into central reservation before ricocheting back into the tractor unit. Both times he was running empty with all of his amber beacons on the trailer and cab unit in full vision from all directions as he had turned them on cos of the cue.. If your going to use a trailer board remove the triangular reflectors cos they are for trailers, feel free to use square or oblong or even round....Just not triangular. I saw the real proper army on the M5 on the way home from Plymouth not a flashing beacon in sight or reflective flapping banner just had their lights on plodding along a about 40mph in the slow lane. Accidents will happen and it's a terrible shame. I won't take my Scammell duel carriageway it's just not worth it, It's no fun, boring, Why even bother going on a motorway just take an extra couple of days and enjoy the lovely B roads....:-D
  15. Don't think the 101 ambulance had a tow bar, It's got steps up the back:whistle:
  16. Now then.....what you need for this job is s scammell explorer and a bulldozer and mabey some cutting gear to take the arm off the digger, Pull that out later.... You best take some bloody pictures of this recovery a wanna see.....lots of piccies.....
  17. do a search on line and you will find a list of vehicles that have been proven on veg oil. bosh injector pumps are ok as are Japanese bosh copies found on the fourtrak ect. Lucas pumps are a problematic but i should think the simms and cav punps should be ok as they were designed to run on crappy fuel.
  18. Got a 2.8 turbo charged fourtrak engine in my series 3 that i run on veg oil. Goes like stink and smooth with it on veg oil. I put my veg oil through my home made centrifuge then pour it through a bed sheet into a 40 gallon drum. filter it cold so you get the animal fat out of it too. I run about one third diesel in mine in summer and about 50 50 in winter. You can use 2500liters of it without paying duty just make a note in a book in the vehicle liters and milage ect so it looks like your trying....
  19. " For gods sake i said use the Scammell if your going to tow that thing......." :-D
  20. not sure about the first one but the second item looks like a clamp on bracket with a swingy hook thing in the middle:-)
  21. Oh yeah...The jibs missing:red: I never even spotted it..... I wouldn't bother putting a jib back on it it's bloody useless, Unless you like pulling wheelies. Now a Hiab, that would be a good addition turns it into a rather useful tool. would seriously consider putting one on mine if i had the cash. Right at the back if i could figure out how to avoid it getting in the way of the winch fairleads.
  22. Could you post some pictures and info about your meadows engine and starting procidure cos my mate used them when he was in the RAF and talks alot about them. I also have a 6DC30 in my Scammell
  23. A fine looking beast. Lots of fun and tears ahead me thinks. First off check the oil pumps in the gearbox (you shouls have a gauge or warning light in the cab that will move when you put your foot on the clutch. The gearbox pump won't work in newtral between first and reverse.... Check that the pump in the rear axle is working too. remove one of the pipes and drive it to see if any oil splurges out. Course you might know all this already, have you got any other big toys?
  24. I had a problem with the pressure reducing valve on the scammell so decided to eliminate it to get it rolling. As it turns out, With the whole system running at 90 - 100 psi braking is a pleasure and steering very easy. just with a 15- 20 psi increase in pressure:D
