  1. Dear All, For a while now I had thought the the Mk 2A Supacat in the collection was an oddity in as much as the makers plate has Alvis involved. I had thought that perhaps Alvis was involved as it was a sale to a foreign country, Canada. From what I can see of the detailed pictures of the one for sale at Withams here:- http://www.mod-sales.com/auction/vehicle/related/39806/Supacat_6x6.htm has the same kind of plate as ours. Can anyone explain how Alvis became the maker as far as the data plate goes? R
  2. Dear Exodus Chris, In the lift pump on the side of the engine, when you take it apart there is a brass screen, make sure you check this as well. I know from bitter experience. R
  3. If the oil is clear . . . . . its likely to be the fluid flywheel on the way out. R
  4. Tony, that link you posted is only available to you folks in the UK, we get blocked on it. Will troll around to see if it is somewhere else. So, how many road apples did you collect R

  7. Dear Trevor, Congratulations on making the move from "passive" to "active" on the forum by posting. Also worth noting is the fact that your forum name is your actual name and not "exbatusRTRtankieguy".:kissoncheek: I am very interested in your site and your passion, even though it strays in directions that are not my interest but does interest many others. Living in Canada as an ex pat Brit I welcome any questions about what is preserved out here and would gladly help in obtaining images for you. Just dont expect them overnight. What years were you in 3 RTR? You must have piles of photos from in service days, we all want to see them, honest, we do:yay: Look forward to your contributions to the fray Robin
  8. Dear Andy, For a 12 hour day to only produce 53 seconds of video is a bit below par, even for you.:nono::whistle::iloveyou: I think you must have footage of it loading up onto the trailer. I know you are teasing me . . . . tell me there is more footage!:kissoncheek::hug: Robin
  9. If someone is quoting part numbers to me then they have a parts listing in some format???? Would you care to sell me a copy or direct me to the source?? R

  13. And a press release from 2009 with picture, second item down. Makes me feel a bit of a numpty for not having searched myself before posting! http://www.armyrecognition.com/2009_mois_news_actualites/june_2009_worldwide_army_military_defence_industries_industry_exhibition_news_equipment_armoured_wor.html and more here http://www.easier.com/13079-new-iveco-s-delivered-to-alc-in-uk-s-largest-ever-trakker-deal.html Robin
  14. A web search shows it has quite a lifting capacity. photo quite a long way down the page here:- http://www.thinkdefence.co.uk/2009/09/british-army-vehicles/ and the sister truck 39 KM 73 is shown way down the page here http://www.thinkdefence.co.uk/2011/07/the-future-of-the-british-army-09-wheels-a-sensible-solution/ and you will note how prominent the IVECO name is across the front. Robin
  15. Dear Cosrec, I understand what you are saying, but up close the badging on the front of the cab said IVECO not FODEN. Thanks for replies all. Why is the crane mounted at the rear? I can only think reach is the answer, so some kind of maintenance vehicle? Robin
  16. A little while ago we received what we thought was the replacement idler arm from a UK supplier. On Wednesday last we went to put everything back together only to find when making a side by side comparison that CVR(T) and Stormer don't share quite the same parts and the Stormer which is in my mind a Generation 2 is different. The photo shows the old one on the right with a machined external surface with O ring, thse with an extra canny eye might notice that the bore of the hole is different. We have taken the old and new to a couple of machine shops and found one that for about 3 hours of shop time can rework the part to be the same, so that is where I am off to today. Thanks go to Mark at Green Machine Surplus who supplied the part in short order and has been a pleasure to deal with. Arm should be back on Tuesday next week as they are a bit busy to do it today. Robin
  17. Well, some interesting answers but nothing specific. There must be someone who knows more Robin
  18. Dear All, Usually the movement of equipment to and from the British Army Training Unit Suffield (BATUS) is done by sea and rail. The dead heads are loaded in Alberta where BATUS is located and sent usually east to the Port Of Montreal where the train is met by a ship that has been load at the Military Port of Marchwood in the UK. The replacement vehicles are unloaded and used to haul off the dead heads going back to the UK for disposal or refurb. Last week a mate of mine who is fairly switched on reported to me that he had seen a "Foden" of some variety being transported by low loader in Quebec. We were both curious about it as we both know the train is the usual means of transport as the distances are huge. Today, locally, I did a double take and fast application of brakes when I spotted this on a low loader in a trucking yard. After spinning around and going over and having a walk around I noted a few things. The registration style is the old type 39 KM 74 yet the truck is brand spanking new. The fitment of items such as wheel chocks and the convoy light assembly at the rear are very "Euro" or Germanic looking. The shipping notes pasted on the window show it destined for BATUS and having been shipped on the MV Eddystone I am fairly up on current British kit but this one escapes me. Apologies but it is a cell phone picture Any comments from anyone? Robin
  19. It seems appropriate to point out that while "Silence is Golden" remember "Duct Tape is Silver" R
  20. VERY SeriouslyInterested in b60, please email me. R
  21. Dear D + J, nice to see those, just one question, something in my mind thinks the footman loops are a bit big? Maybe its my imagination. Now for a good priming before paint, that will be the next challenge and one that I know others have failed at to their cost. R
  22. As I am not an artillery womble I dont understand the warning or what is so dramatically wrong with the video. What i do know is that the Canadian Artillery use a blank round that has a very short casing and makes a real impressive sight and sound as seen here:- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZrUxkEdgqY Robin
