  1. Whats the prognosis on the engine and gearbox? Are they both sound or will you have to tear them down and rebuild? You are lucky to have a telehandler to help out. R
  2. If it has not already been done fit electronic ignition, it will make the world of difference. Fun times! R
  3. Speaking as a welder and fabricator the damage done can, with the proper tools and a coat of paint be made invisible. It just depends on your skill level and patience. my 2 cents worth R
  4. Re lifting, The crane operation without a winch cable, such as on the Bedfords is an acquired art. Agreed it can not lift vertically up as you are moving in an arc in any direction but it is very close. We place all kinds of things on our Bedford CALM and have no problem placing them accurately, you just have to learn how to use the kit. The only real defecit to the Atlas cranes is that they dont rotate as much as the cranes on a Stalwart which have 350 degrees of rotation IIRC. There have been many times when I would love to have been able to slew over the cab and drop things. R
  5. Maybe you cant find any pictures of a 3 colour scheme because they were not painted that way? R
  6. From the X Mod website, hence I cant crib the piccy. Tensioner, NSN 2935998122360 other number quoted is AS039786 R
  7. I think Im have a bit of a moment here. Can anyone tell me if there EVER was a tensioner for the generator drive belt, or has anyone ever fitted an improvised one? R
  8. To the best of my knowledge, over time I have seen the following:- Deep Bronze green, matt green, matt green with black, matt green with black and white overlay AMFL (N), various shades of sand (Gulf War 1), sand (various) with other colour disruptive pattern (GW1), sand with green (UK + BATUS), sand with green and red (BATUS), gloss blue (BATUS adventure training vehicles), orange (NI), white, white and black. Are you refering to the American favoured 3 colour scheme or the Canadian scheme? Any one else want to chime in? R
  9. Welcome to the CVR(W) section of the Forum clubhouse parking lot and or workshop corner. I am knee deep in a Fox project / disaster full of Previous Owner Stupid Tricks (POSTS) amongst other things. My definition of a Fox is a racehorse designed by a commitee that came out as a Camel. I feel justified in being able to say that as I have owned a Ferret, am currently looking after two of them, and about to receive my own two soon and look after a Fox as well. Parts are interesting to source, working on them is a treat, hope you are less than 125lbs in weight and 5ft nothing in height. As per others please tell us more about yours and post some pictures R
  10. Dear Matt, Your ideas sound grand but flawed. The idea of a one piece drop on frame that sockets into receiver tubes while being dangled from the crane sounds like a crazed 1970's "Its A Knockout" or ""Jeux Sans Frontiers" event that could only be made better by having a resurrected Eddy Waring doing the commentary accompanied by Raymond Baxter for technical input. In my humble opinion you would be better of with a drop on van body as per Loggy Driver has, its likely a bit more manageable. From the colonies R
  11. During work on our CVR(W) Fox I encountered a need to replace seals in the fan bevel box. I did try Bannisters but they had no stock nor any alternate suppliers. A local supplier here in Canada identified the seal from the numbers as being a Weston seal, there was a W at the begining of the seal number on the one I took out. Westons have been bought out by Eriks UK. They have a very friendly help desk and have amazingly come up with the required seals for the princely sum of two pounds and fifty one pence! Im chuffed R
  12. There were two types of Bedfords with cranes. One is different from the other as folllows:- One with drop sides has a crane that folds down lower to the ground. One without drop sides has a higher stowage position and the load bed is shorter that drop side version. Orange Bedford shown is the without drop sides. R
  13. Could you possibly put some narrative even if its just a few sentences to tell us what was going on and why you were there please? R
  14. Some where, either in a 20ft sea can or in a S280 shelter module, where my life is currently stored, I have B + W pics of the Belgian 2wd provided to me by a MR C ZWART. They had sideways hinged tailgates if I recall rightly. R
  15. Joris, Thanks for all the work you put into the forum, some of us are realistic enough to know that like MVs, computers have "issue" at times. No worries R
  16. Radios, especially ones painted green have always been a touchy subject. Dependant on how they are described and dependant on how swift or obtuse the customs examining officer is you may not get them into the country. Technically anything related to a military vehicle leaving the UK needs an export licence and that must have a full technical dscription of what it is. To apply for such a licence is a real performance and is very time consuming. A number of the more honest UK parts suppliers will not send items outside the UK because of that. they are somewhat gun shy after the Andrew Jakson circus. If you can have them described as " sold as is where is not working for display purposes" they might slide out of the UK and into the US ok but be prepared to walk away from them if they get blocked. Thats our experience R
  17. Nope, its fitted under the passenger side part of the dash right above the passengers feet. Cable comes up against the front panel. It is mounted on a bracket. Looks like a later add on / retro fit. R
  18. In our LHD ones they are mounted on a bracket under the dash in front of the passenger facing on the angle towards the driver. Could take a photo but it would be for a LHD vehicle R
  19. Court Martial Photograph, marked exhibit "A" proving Private Snodgrass was blowing his own horn. Summarily jailed for 30 days and fined a dollar. R
  20. You wont be sorry with the Cummins. We have one in a boat and several in trucks. They are a benchmark engine in North America. Cant wait to see the result R
  21. I can only aspire to having large assemblies in the house like you guys. I can at least report that in any washroom in the house one can find manuals or CMV or MMI or various Land Rover related magazines to make a throne visit all the more purposeful. R
  22. Just a word of caution, we bought a vehicle from Withams and the 654 did not have the full VIN on it only the last seven digits, caused no end of grief. R
