  1. Welcome, from just a bit east and south of you, Ontario Canada to be precise. As John says there is a specialist tool but his method is spot on. Neglect that check at your peril. Is your vehicle stored in heated ie above freezing temps? We share a similar climatic range as you, and have issues with wheel cylinders and other seals as a result. Regards Robin
  2. Wow! Would love to see some all around shots as it was being built. Is that AA's kit? R
  3. Andy, I was going to do exactly that. You might notice that I have done photos and text on most things we do already. R
  4. Gents, we will hopefully start the strip down of a "Sankey" type trailer soon. What do most people use to remove paint on something this delicate? Does the tub come off the chassis easily? Anything to watch for? Thanks Robin
  5. I have been given the OK to advertise this Austin Gypsy fire engine (LHD) but I cant find a Gypsy specific website or owners group that will respond. Does anyone have a clue or she will go through the shredder. Just trying to see it go to a good home R
  6. Tim, what was it first and last used in? R
  7. Oh Andy, I think we have been so blind to those havent we! Well done R
  8. I found these yesterday apologies for poor quality as they are phone pictures. Have better hi rez on CD but they are massive size files From top down they are: Austin Gypsy parts wreck rear M37 radio SEV slide in body Pair of FV2842 trailers axles removed piled atop each other Austin Gypsy Fire engine, very complete except for front mounted pump, not military I think FV 2842 trailer with Medium Girder Bridge pallets on top Dodge Data plate M37 radio body side shot R
  9. Mr Retriever is correct, Its is used on the FV FV 2842 Trailer 3 Ton medium Girder Bridge trailer across the front and is clipped to the bridge for pushing it out I believe. The AFV ones have a different size hole and are a slightly different shape. R
  10. Thsi drawbar has been on ebay recently and ended without bids. I had no clue what it was for, as the holes at the end were a strange dimension. Today by complete fluke I think I have solved what it is from, and it comes from a non powered piece of kit before you answer. Before I say what I think it is from does anyone know? And dont use the picture name as a clue, thats cheating. R
  11. From this part of the world we have a Sorel Industries 25 pounder that is still in the Canadian Forces and used as a funeral carriage in Shilo, Manitoba. Am awaiting pictures and into service date. R
  12. Something very heavy under that cover judging by the lifting points. R
  13. Chris, looking good there. What will be the registration for the road process and documentation required? R
  14. There is a chap on ebay uk who sells military vehicle parts who is selling decals / stickers. Think he mentions he can make anything R
  15. Sean, your obviously waterlogged! Yes, for the purposes of this exercise, my definition of VEHICLE is a machine or device self propelled or drawn that travels on land OR is water ie amphibious capable. Ergo DUKW yes HMS Victory NO Are you an ex bootneck or matlow by chance? R
  16. I know Sean you are awash with bright ideas but try to keep your feet firmly grounded and think vehicle not ship. Otherwise we will have to consider bringing back keel hauling if you dont understand the difference! Now muscle in and get your thinking cap back on. R
  17. Can we get a bit more detail on the carrier, date int service and date out of service with some pictures. Was it continuous usage or was there a "fallow" period? R
  18. One can't forget the the Brit MV headlight is still in use with the RM DUKWs, even if they were not an original fitment they are still serving and im sure they were modified for thos lights a whiel ago as they also use th side / turn signals that are so common to them in other usage. R
  19. Mike, D = 1942 but when did the Brits first get them? That make a years difference. Anyhow, DUKW is clear leader and Gold medal place so far. what are contenders for silver and bronze then? R
  20. Dear Mike, you were fast off the draw, I was wondering who was going to nominate them, but lets get some dates, when did the DUKWs come into service, we know that at least two are still at Instow. R
  21. If he had been SAS he would not having been sitting on it, it would have been perched on his shoulder as they are all hard nuts mate;)
  22. Allied to my hread of longest parts usage, I am starting this thread on longest service of an MV in any force worldwide. My entry, what you didnt think I would start the thread without an entry did you, is a delivered in 1953 M100 trailer that I bought at auction yesterday and was used for the last few years as a training aide at the Canadian Airborne Centre being chucked out of aircraft and underslung to helos from what we can tell. So that makes it a 58 year service life from 1953 to 2011 by my calculation. It has a few wrinkles, as anythng with that many "air miles" has got, goodness knows how many drops it has made. Anyhow, it is sold and will be delivered to its new owner tonight. Pictures to follow tonight. R
  23. Andy, think you meant to say "count my rivetts";) R
  24. Nice try Mr Gritineye, but sadly as per the "cotter pin" ruling its out of bounds. The variations in the horn trouble me but when observed it does "look" the same and I'm saying that puts it in the running, we will await consensus on allowing at the final day of judgement. We should do the same with the interior light. Could I ask Adrian to post a picture of the WW2 version and Chris or I will do a picture of the more modern version so we can have a look see? R
  25. That is a weird style of PSP standing beside it R
