  1. A view on the river Blyth looking up towards the old grain plant and ash dock past the tidal dock, where as the hull was lightened it was moved up.
  2. As an ADR driver of many years, when I took the original exams the last thing the teacher said before he put out the papers-( READ the questions) very forcefully. That part of the quote has stayed with me, the colourfull bits have been lost in the mist of time.
  3. I have just seen a photo of several Mk1 Militant's fitted with rope operated backhoe/face shovel equipment. I wonder if any survive.
  4. I cannot think of anything else 2 axle with a flat panel nose to the cab. Any idea of location.
  5. Looks very like an Austin K5
  6. When trying to free the engine one thing to check is the camshaft and followers, along with the valve stems. Take the side plates off and give them a liberal dose of your favourite freeing oil,
  7. With a gearbox mounted P.T.O. they were slow speed and not suitable or able to use the full power of the engine. Compressors, hydraulic pumps, and slow speed generators are the usual items powered by this means.
  8. There is a one for sale on ebay powering a fire pump, I have not counted the head studs, there was also a new one for sale on millweb.
  9. Thanks for the reply, I think pilot shaft, gearbox bearing, and as you say Radiator cap all for Bedford. They seem much smaller than I remember from working on them.
  10. A few more bits lurking in one corner.
  11. Thanks to the whole family for taking the time and making the effort so that we could see this wonderfull set of pictures and story.
  12. Here is a selection of wireing from one corner.
  13. I do not think anyone who has taken an interest in WW2 especially in Northern Africa would regard Italian Military personel as cowardly. It is rarely mentioned but a lot of the sorties carried out by Axis forces during the Battle of Britain were carried out by Italian air crew.
  14. My recollection was wrong, All of the RR engines I worked on were C4 both Turbo and Supercharged, I cannot remember the power outputs. Working compressors, generators, or Vickers Vicon or C6's various marks and power outputs from I80 bhp up to 265 bhp I did not come across any SF65 fitted to Vickers tractors they were all C6 engined or I believe some Cummins engined ones were built. Those Cummins engines had the PT fuel system. I think the main difference of the SF65 (Falcon) was it ran with the reduced bore of 5 inch and higher compression ratio in the N/A of 17 to 1.
  15. If I remember correctly the SF65 range of engines were a wet sump partly re engineered C series still with the option's of N/A, Turbo charging or positive displacement Roots type blower but lighter and higher reving. For their day they had a good power output with good torque. I only came accross them in Terrex TS24 motor scrapers. Two scrapers that I knew were eventually re engined with Cummins straight six big cams, as parts became harder to get as RR changed to the Eagle Range of engines. They were not as incontinent as the Eagles. I think I still have a workshop manual for them. I think when they were new they were about £1000 pounds each. International only paid about £600 each for a C6 a lot less than Vickers paid for the same engine.
  16. Went past Jacksons at Piercebridge on Wednesday A Humber FV 1600 series with cargo body was parked by the fence beside some RB's, maybe looking for a new home.
  17. Is the collie in training for a D/T round up when this Covid is over? Great pictures with a tantilising glimps of a bonnet/hood of something else.
  18. I think there are parts available, I could be wrong but I think the MOD still has a few. Many parts are commercially available U/Js belts and bearings, Front axle parts and transfer box gears will become harder to find.Cost is another matter. Gearbox parts should not be a problem or possibly a change to a six speed. Brake chamber parts should not be a problem even the front axle parking brake ones. I think Crouch have a lot of spares.
  19. Like everything it depends how it is driven, and at what GVW. Leyland 313/Cummins B series is not a thirsty engine but with perminient 4wd will it will use a bit more fuel than a 4x2. I think about twenty and a half Lts per 100 km would be an average figure.
  20. Hi I sent a PM with my post code and telephone number. I was just going to put them in the dark box, If someone else has a use for them thats O.K. with me.
