  1. On some engines to get the system purged of air turn the ignition switch to run then bleed it.
  2. Do you now have one Roller and one Hercules powered T and is that a wrecker in the background?
  3. When you are bleeding an engine with a mechanical hand priming pump, make sure the cam follower is is off the the cam otherwise you are just moving the trigger and not moving the diaphragm. Crank or hand turn the engine the engine stopping at different stages to check for resistance on the trigger. Those Cummins engines are notoriously difficult to bleed when fitted with a bosh injection pump it seems to need to turn over at speed to get the initial high pressure to the injectors. Remove the stop and throttle linkages off the pump and see if you have any resistance. Some have an electric stop solenoid are there any wires to the pump? These stick and sometimes can be fixed with a little light tap with something small.
  4. Under bonnet air intakes don't help engine performance, when they are running at full torque on hot air. You can hear it come off song as it climes a hill with no blower or turbo to help. Air forced in by the cooling fan does help to keep the pressure up under the bonnet but that is hot, making the problem worse. Domed air filter intakes design's tends to lower the pressure in the filter body as well, as it is trying to get air from a flow going past at 90 degrees. I know its not standard but if you replaced the two intakes with small forward facing short bend intake's with a wire grill across the opening to keep out any debris it will make quite a difference to its performance on grades, helping its breathing, and the man looking after the gear changing. Just my thoughts, Its a long time since I have seen a proper rig like that doing what it was intended for. I am presuming it is a Roller making the noise, they need cool air for best performance. Keep the temperature down on the heads and all of those little grommets will last a lot longer.
  5. I think the old boys appreciate the effort you made making the video. Lovely exhaust note, slick gear changing. Thanks.
  6. This is an early machine with the small mushroom drive shafts , no hydraulic ram mounts and rimed sprockets.
  7. I would guess a 500 could be shoehorned in, but it is a fairly tall engine and front diff clearance may be a problem. Bedford did have a TK or KM I cannot remember witch with two 330's side by side on test. Given the problems getting parts for any Bedford engine why not look at a B series Cummins non electronic, give one's with 53 on the lower front left corner of the block a miss. there are a range of gearbox's you could then fit. It would be better on fuel as well.
  8. I think it is the Sangaetano ex Samtrusty built in 1944 GRT 6586 Arrived Blyth 02=05=1972.
  9. Sadly I have just found out that Rodney has passed away. I will have to find another way.
  10. Sorry that is the best I can do. I will get the name and date, I just need to talk to the last sales manager of the yard.
  11. Some more photos of Battleship Wharf. First one is of the scrap side looking past a very young me at the rear of the J type, a Leyland Comet with a 350 engine 5 speed box and a vacuum operated 2 speed axle and a Gardner engined Smith Rodley rail crane, towards the woodwork shed and engineering shops. Also the end is nearing for a 1940's icon as a Liberty ship is preparing to berth for the last time prior to demolition.
  12. A fuel lift/ priming pump only supply's low pressure fuel to the fuel injection pump, to bleed the injectors you will have to loosen the injector pipes one or two at a time and spin the engine using the starter motor. Usually just slacken the injector pipes 1/2 a turn and catch fuel with a rag.
  13. That was a good watch, but it poses the question, both man and machine. Where are they now?
  14. Sorry I am having trouble up loading from printer.
  15. A view on the river Blyth looking up towards the old grain plant and ash dock past the tidal dock, where as the hull was lightened it was moved up.
