  1. This was what I bought today. Lots of little curiosities of mixed items you get Pans, bed, enamelled immediately followed by Pans, frying, oval Then you get Holders, tooth-brush with the note that "Trays, toilet-brush, earthen, will be issued in lieu until stock is used up." Bit of a size difference I would have thought. Studying the printer's imprints reveal that 5,000 of these were published but the first of the amendments 3 months later they started printing amendments each with a quantity of 7,000 I notice anything dated 1914-18 & 1939-45 fetches a premium but the history between or before those times seems to be held in little regard because there wasn't a war. But it is all connected in its various ways.
  2. Thanks for posting those. I've got quite a few photos of civilian breakdown conversions but not many display their registration plates. Some are distinctive because of outrageous paint schemes but plain green is more difficult to identify. If I had the army registration I might link it to a picture.
  3. Niels I don't belong to that network, can you tell us the details if possible with a registration in case I know it?
  4. Krid can you give us some context to this & an era. There is not an absolute definition of Army abbreviations which would be vast & often contradictory. It will depend on the Arm of Service & context that the abbreviation is being used. Is this on a record card, a vehicle, ammunition etc? Of official publications I have glanced at (& it would take too long to search every conceivable glossary) so far: RSD: Returned Stores Depot, Reserve Supply Depot, Reduced Safety Distance, Recovery Salvage & Disposal, WP: Warranty Period, Water Point, White Phosphorus ...and there will be more.
  5. Well it looks like a variation of Cans, oil, MV/930 but it is unusual to see the fold down handle. Usually it is fixed & upright which I always thought was to provide some protection for the spout & cap. The cap itself is Cap, screw LV6/MT1/22600
  6. Yes I remember text only was free once. But I see now the cost for a text only is the same as a one photo advert. So you might as well stick a photo in, apart from making it look more interesting I think photo adverts are always placed above text only ones.
  7. Very true when I rang for recovery of my Shorland this year I was put through to a call centre probably not in this country. As I didn't want the recovery man to not recognise my vehicle, I explained that my Land Rover from the rear did not look as other Land Rovers do as it has a turret. "You are towing a caravan?" "No I am not" "But it has a turret" "What is turret?" "A small turret, bit like a thing on top of a tank" "You are in a tank towing a caravan?" "NO!"
  8. This turned up a few days ago. A very interesting read if you like that sort of thing. Very sketchy in places but to get 200 years of history squeezed in some important details get lost. HMSO supplied HM Forces not only with publications but a full range of stationery ancillaries. Something that would have delighted the spirit of Capt Darling no doubt. The book is in very good condition which is unusual for an ex-library book published nearly 30 years ago. But the library stamp shows that it was only lent out on only one occasion 20 years ago
  9. Chris it was struck off on 5/8/69 & sold at Ruddington. I have no pictures I'm afraid the nearest I have is 13 BK 81
  10. Just out of interest here is AFG 857 & AFG 875 first 1916 & below 1960s.
  11. Certainly post-war it was AB 413 I don't know what it was for in WW2 but in WW1 it had a different function.
  12. This more what you were thinking of Bob & Richard. Latrines, buckets, large
  13. Its tempting to think that. The most eligible would be Latrines, buckets, large VAOS Section J1/1012 A1878 or A8874 There is no illustration in my 1941 VAOS. But in the 1946 VAOS the part number is not identified although the bucket illustrated is narrower, there is a carrying handle loop at the top. But only one handle at the side, this is not for carrying but to aid with tipping or hurling out the contents more effectively. Sorry to disappoint the latrine avids but I suspect this more for coal & such like.
  14. This is "conker" was a good match to the original & I only had to touch up with it in places, but this is post-war.
  15. Or even for when fitting a C12 or C42 in a Jeep?
  16. The receptacle for the antenna stork is very familiar. But I have never seen this particular mounting before, I just wonder whether it might be for such rarities as an FFR trailer where the conventional vehicle mounting plate would be inappropriate?
  17. Yes No.4 would be rather nice & in-keeping with many vehicles of the time for the casual but authentic look. The illustration is from a later VAOS (Section J1 Camping Equipment) dated 1946
  18. So they tell me :-D A few more bits to collect before you have the complete set:
  19. It looks like a JA5080 Buckets, water, canvas, Mark V valued at 5/- in 1941
  20. Wading my way through these (1935, 1937, 1938, 1939, 1949, 1964) Lots snippets of info surfacing. Anyone got WO Lists 1947, 1952, 1957 they want to part with?
  21. Well done Doug it is very satisfying when you work through & sort it out yourself.
