  1. Welcome. I wonder were you involved with any of the air drop trials for Hornet/Malkara that would have gone on during your time with A.A.T.D.C?
  2. Nigel glad its running now. I think the pipe terminations are different but the LR switch is much taller so is going to be an awful lot of fiddling. You'd be much better off repairing the original, I assume it is punched disc of cork which shouldn't be too difficult to replicate. Although if it altered the tank switching direction that would be an advantage as (for ease of plumbing) the switching is not as one would expect in the Pig. On prototype Pigs it was logical but on production the direction of the switch changed. Unfortunately when mine was "upgraded" to the later plumbing nobody thought to change the electrical switching, which as you can see is quite complex. So during its later military service the fuel gauge always displayed the fuel level in the tank not being used!

  4. Maybe the circle identifies a new colour of wire that is different from that used on the original Land Rover installation?
  5. Mark FV8128 is not actually the design designation of the trailer, it is just for the early cargo body that sits on a FV8127 Mk 1 light sprung 1 Ton trailer chassis, which together form Trailer, 1 Ton, 2 Wheeled, Cargo, Mk 1 Later versions of FV8127 were fitted with FV7970 cargo body that was fitted to both light & heavy sprung trailers. At that stage these trailers were recognised as being in the FV2401 series of 1 Ton Trailers. FV2401 sequence fits into FVRDE classification of designs for vehicles & trailers of their various kinds. The FV800 series was allocated to 8/10 Ton, 3/4 tracked vehicles. There was no FV8*** allocation in this sequence.
  6. Charlie can you give us some idea of the context of this symbol? What is it on? Clothing, vehicle, weapon, building, map, diagram, road sign etc? As far as maps & diagrams go a vertical arrow is the symbol for a machine gun. From FSPB 1943 if the arrow is pointing upwards & has no tail or other embellishments it is a LMG but I have no idea what the curly bit might mean.
  7. Doug have you got any of Army publications? Army Generator Lucas C45 PV5 Regulator Lucas RB106/s Civilian Generator Lucas C45 PV-4L/O Regulator Lucas 95/2 Type L4 When I say civilian it is just that I don't know whether Home Office contracts differed.
  8. These are for the main harness, the type depends on the contract. Rover 541624 Lucas 54931056 Rover 529992 Lucas 54930156
  9. I suppose it is to show that you are a thoroughly good fellow and as a new boy engratiate yourself with your superiors who will recognise you as someone polite and subservient who will fit into the established rituals and structure of hierarchy within the regiment.
  10. Yes well done Chris, you are on form tonight!
  11. Another good idea Wally but these are customs rather than legal matters. "This pamphlet is intended to give an Officer Cadet about to be commissioned an idea of some of the things to look out for on joining his regiment or corps."
  12. Picking up on the social changes Bernard. It could well have been something like that but its something else.
  13. Another plausible one Wally but this not political or strategic but social.
  14. A good thought Gordon but this is more related to social change.
  15. Good line of thought Chris & you are clearly wary of lateral thought catches such as blank pages. I always chuckle when I read "This page has been deliberately left blank" something of a paradox But these two and a half pages have content that was no longer considered appropriate to Army life in 1964.
  16. Not directly Empire related Gordon, but none the less a reflection of changing times.
  17. That's a good suggestion Wally but this is not related to that. Curiously the early one has no security classification marked but the later one is Restricted.
  18. Here we have two publications, the one on the right superseding the one on the left. Everything in the later one is word for word what is in the earlier one. But it is only 29 pages whereas the earlier one has 32 pages. The mystery object is the content or theme of the 3 pages that have now been dropped.
  19. Ok I have another ready, slightly different format. Give me a few minutes.
  20. Sorry I thought we had strayed into the world of microbiological warfare.
  21. Earlier in the year I had some Chieftain ones, but nobody seemed to want them even for a few pounds so I think I had to throw them away in the end :-(
  22. No I'm not familiar with that form of warfare, but doesn't sound to be playing by the rules :undecided:
  23. Yes Chris well done infra-red See pages 8-9 http://www.hmvf.co.uk/pdf/Tabby03.pdf
  24. It isn't Wally but a very plausible suggestion
  25. No nothing lurking in the woods Lauren
