  1. Clever - greatly diminish the chance of your hard work literally going up in smoke.
  2. Obviously accuracy might be an issue - however, given that Lucas did standardize colours pretty early and given the opportunity for misadventure with all the same colour, I would suggest you go with coloured wires - future owners will thank you. seriously though this might fall in the category of "sensible mod"
  3. That isn't a starter problem - If it were a gas engine, I would say it is fuel evaporation - not sure if there is a diesel equivelant
  4. very cool! Thanks for the link
  5. Is there by chance another website where you post your stuff? I am very very intrigued by what you describe - meccano + model. amazing!
  6. While I have not been able to contribute to this at all - it sure would be great to see pictures!
  7. Teaching Granny to suck eggs here, but the product of choice for early MG steering racks (which also demand a semi-fluid grease) is Corn head Grease http://www.cenex.com/~/media/cenex/files/lubricants/cornhead grease/corn head grease_pds-h9-02.ashx
  8. Just because I recently did it - there are also excellent fillers designed for canoe canvas that could smooth out the top beautifully.
  9. NFI - various sources - just never have seen so many at one time. 10. I feel obliged to point out the if you rebuild your carbs on the kitchen table, the Carb Cleaner WILL dissolve the varnish on the table and SWMBO WILL be dismayed particularly as she had already only allowed you to rebuild said carbs in the house because it was winter AND you will immediately have to delay your restoration to refinish the kitchen table. Don't ask me how I know.... Love this restoration - am simply in awe of the ingenuity.
  11. Not wanting to go too far off topic, but, the 4th picture in post #31 - any guess as to the car? It looks post war.
  12. But it HAS to be true, I read it on the internet! :red:
  13. OK lads, is this someone here and if so, could you adopt me? Or, alternately, why aren't we reading more stories like this on the forum? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4395042/Collector-finds-2million-worth-gold-bullion-tank.html :-D
  14. Not sure if it is relevant but, this if for sale on this side of the pond - might be worth contacting for spare parts or knowledge. http://www.kijiji.ca/v-classic-cars/markham-york-region/1943-ww2-m2a1-halftrack-ww2-armour/1234838395?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true
  15. Looks great! thanks for posting.
  16. I get the Hemmings e-newsletter - thought this might be of interest. https://www.hemmings.com/blog/2017/03/30/on-75th-anniversary-of-cleveland-bomber-and-tank-plant-military-vehicles-to-report-there-for-convention/?refer=news
  17. Thanks all for your perspectives - It was originally advertized as a speedometer - and what caught my eye was actually the clock - My intent in purchasing was to make an interesting desk clock - which may still happen. Checking completed listings is an excellent idea! The GT is pretty stationary at the moment - We have been doing a fair number of home renos which take priority - that said, I went out last night to start to make room - and promptly put out my back <doh!> but, would love to have it on the road for the British car Day in September!
  18. so it wouldn't be of use to a restorer? not for use but for authenticity?
  19. Greetings MV aficionados! May I say how much I enjoy just hanging out and watching these projects - Makes my work on cars seem slightly less mad by comparison! :-D I don't know where else to ask this question and I hope I am in the right place. Yesterday I purchased a Tachograph - sort of by accident - which is to say that I didn't realize it was a tachograph until I got it home and took a look. Googling around, it seems to be really similar to this one on ebay (not quite) http://www.ebay.at/itm/Kienzle-LKW-Tachometer-Tachograph-Fahrtenschreiber-mit-Uhr-Original-selten-/262731099282?hash=item3d2bfe6c92:m:m5px02Z2bkPOX43rkDdWWCA Does anyone know about these things? Is there a market for them? I was going to use the clock part for a desk clock, but, if it is saleable for what this guy seems to be asking, I would be just as happy to continue to fund the Vauxhall restoration. Any thoughts? Cheers all and thanks in advance!
  20. That is impressive! thanks for showing us the process.
  21. Awareness is good - to a point - unfortunately now we are beginning to see people wanting to dig up the Septic Tanks buried in their gardens! :nut: :cool2: :-D
