  1. Old snap shot of Pioneer transporter NO1 or the only one, note the added crew protection canvas behind the cab. On the back is hand written one of our small transporters, small its the only one we had at the time and the largest, look at those headlamps designed to blind you and the stability of that 20 ton trailers leaves a lot to be desired
  2. The American K6 is interesting as its the standard wireless cabin one sees in the back of Jimmies here its mounted on a power truck base i wonder the reason why they did that. good photos
  3. A constructor that went to Australia to Northern Queensland in 1957, typical Aus trailer built by Freighter trailers LTD
  4. For those that have not seen it this article from the Feb 3rd 1950 Commercial Motor makes interesting reading
  5. I took this photo long ago at Duxford can anyone tell me who owned it at the time and is it still around i think it is and is it still in desert trim
  6. RAF Austin K6 cab and chassis with frame work for various box bodies and signal containers
  7. A couple of PW Dutch army T photos, if memory serves me right they in the Dutch East Indies, but i stand to be corrected on that
  8. I would like to know more about that Leyland conversion too Dave, for instance is the frame work original forward of the fuel tanks or had it been cut and grafted to make it forward control also the crane appears to be a Dial Holmes but the jibs seem to tell me otherwise any one have any photos of the gear between the cab and body. Whilst researching the book i paid a visit to Lanes at Abervagenny to take some pics of Goliath and was surprised to find at the bottom of the yard a ex Watkins T used for a source of spares
  9. The army also had a crack at this to the 10 ton Aveling Barford shuttle dump truck, and another of the Haulmatic
  10. Some photos of the armys Aveling Barford version
  11. Thats a Ford E4 3 ton truck called Commer cabbed Fords, ex british army, around 5000 were built in the 1950s looking at this one i would suspect its been used in the Round Timber Trade
  12. Isuppose these should be in the books section but afraid i cant work out how to load items in that section, any way two excellent books have recently been released by Alan House and Tony Gibbs. The first by Alan is titled HOME FRONT TRANSPORT vehicles of the UK civil defence services, as the title suggests the book covers a wide range of vehicle types used by the civil defence including diverted and ex military. the extensive text has been well researched and gives a good insight to the way the organisation worked from 1938 to 1968 as well as vehicle allocation numbers and details on activitys both in WW2 and PW. A large selection of photos of good quality are included these being half plate size this book is well recomended and is available from Alan House at Hampshire Fire and Rescue Services HQ, Leigh Road, Eastleigh. Hants S050 9SJ. Cost including postage in the UK is £19.75 cheques made payable to HFRS. STERLING T26 DISCOVERED The second book is also a labour of love and if heavy American military trucks are for you this book is a must. This 220 page hardback book has taken many years to research by Tony in conjunction with the original designer Steve Hodges in the states,. I still have to complete reading the text but can see no stone has been left unturned in the research, the photos that accompany the text are stunning and really open your eyes to the design of the huge Stirling T26 12 ton tractor the book is not amongst the cheap range and because of its speciality i would not expect it to be but these days you get what you pay for and this book is well worth the money. Priced at £36.50 including UK postage it is available from Tony Gibbs 6 Tarleton Gardens Forest Hill London SE23 3XN, if you want one dont delay as they are on a very limited production run
  13. Certainly appears to be ex RAF, had a look in my PW data files but nothing there, the frame looks to be the standard 5 ton trailer issued to both army and RAF. As it looks RAF prehaps Ted may have something on it
  14. About time we started a thread on this subject to cover all types used since 1945, 3 shots of the Haulmatic to kick off
  15. A wad of photos of Land Rovers from around 1968 to 70
  16. These were badged Scammells when the photos were taken at Watford and were destined for the middle east
  17. Without trawling through all the pages on this thread i cant be sure if this pic has been in before
  18. Certainly a Crossley Q, looking at the rear it could be a workshop conversion on a GStender
  19. Thanks Richard, you never know might be lucky cheers Les

  21. Hi Tony Sack cloth and ashes this end, that Daws of Dartford T has slipped through my net i know you cant win em all but this one is Kent based and i have nothing on it so the searching starts again. I am also still looking for further pics of the T owned by Western Motor works last based at there Woodchurch Garage in Kent, two photos of the Telstar recovery i take it this was the crane that came off the Daws truck and the third i think is you old T or would this be ex Daws cheers Les
  22. Tony, thought you would like these this is the last time i laid eyes on Kens DT its been recabbed here any ideas what he used. The second two show the Addington Motors DT hard at work winching out a bogged Poclain you can just see the jib in the backgound, i was informed it had sunk into about 6ft of slimey mud and it took the combined efforts of the DT and a second Poclain to rescue it cheers Les
