  1. Lots of places do repro horns for both ford and willys. Are you on the G503 forum? Try Ron Fitzpatrick ~https://www.vintagejeeps.com/
  2. I think I'd weld in some new horn sections on the front. Take them back to the radiator support so you can brace on the inside of the frame and no one can see. I've had to rebuild one of my horn sections in the same way as the battery had eaten away everything.
  3. Where abouts are you Ben? I'm in Sleaford just below Cranwell.
  4. Thanks gents, I'll give them a try. There's probably plenty in the area but they don't appear to advertise.
  5. Anyone have any recommendations for a good machinist in the Lincolnshire area who can rebore the cylinders, re grind the crank, re cut valve seat and possibly repair a crack to the block from my Jeep? Any help and direction appreciated.
  6. The implications of this are unreal. This will even effect the military! HM forces have a large number of deactivated firearms that are not required to be kept in the Armoury. Our SAT ranges use deactivated SA80s, our messes contain many Deac tropheys. We have gate guardians with machine cannons. The military can't be exempt as they are still deactivated.
  7. I believe the extra pipe is to pressurise the can so that the contents are pushed out of the normal spout connection possibly into another tank. Wasn't there another thread on the forum regarding these?
  8. This makes no sense, it goes on about records and collectors etc. Who will be the responsible body monitoring and recording this? Who is going to pay! Where is the compensation? What a load of crap. Oh and of course all the criminals will be disappointed now.
  9. 2000 is a lot. It's a common problem and a reasonably easy fix.
  10. Hi Kev, what Vickers were they? 303 mk1, Brit or Aussie or do you mean K GO? lots of Mk1s for sale at the moment.
  11. How bad is it? Lots of info on the G503 forum if you decide to repair your self. Unless you de-rivet the chassis it shouldn't be to bad to have a go your self.
  12. I've got a March 42 GPW myself, not got to stripping the axles yet, I'm just repairing the frame before moving on to the axles. Mine have got Ford logos and and GP part numbers. If you've got CJ axles, I've a feeling that may change the steering set up. There have been quite a few GPW axles on eBay recently for reasonable money so could be worth keeping an eye open.
  13. As with many EU regulations, we the Brits are the only idiots that implement them. How many EU laws are ignored in Spain, France and everywhere else.
  14. They will be banning cars next because they could run a pedestrian down. im happy enough to register myself as a deac owner but it should be free of charge and that's not going to happen. In fact this whole idea won't happen. It would just destroy museums, collectors, the military ( yes our small arms trainers are deactivated L85A1s made to look like A2s).
  15. Well it's a good job I don't have 100 deactivate ww2 MGs in my attic! if a ban occurred, they will force thousands of legal chunks of metal under ground. Unless they offer huge compensation, there is no incentive. I'd be looking at compo of about £150,000 to surrender my deacs.
  16. I picked up an unissued ftr one for £35 in January so they can be found.
  17. A very common problem even in service. When I was op Op Bolton our guys continuously had to get new boots off the yanks because we never had stock. Oil contamination only made it quicker.
  18. We (25 Sqn) had ours sewn on by Taylors when they went for Laundry whilst in Saudi for Air Ops Iraq in 2002. They were being sewn on to new issue kit before that.
  19. That's right, they did have a chromed or polished MG on tripod. I looked through the box of Enfield revolvers to see if there was anything special but alas, there was nothing. Good price though.
  20. Its an Australian Bren Chest, the 99 code for the UK is due to the design origin being British. If you look on one end along the dovetail you will probably find the name Slazenger.
  21. Hopefully I remember this correctly, Butt No.1 Mk1 introduced with STEN Mk1 Pilot and early production models. Butt No.2 Mk1 introduced with STEN Mk1 Later models. Made by U&U (Unique and Unity) Butt No.2 Mk2 introduced with STEN Mk2 Early examples made by U&U using the cast abutment plate of the No.1 Mk2 Butt No.3 Mk1 introduced with STEN MK3 made by Lines Brothers and then by Long Branch of Canada (Subtle differences) I may have the Butt numbers slightly wrong because I can't remember where the Butt No.3 came into it. Anyway, the T stock was the first of the common types followed by the loop butt (Rifle profile) not the other way around. The T Stock involved 5 parts to make, the abutment plate, the tube, the butt plate, the reinforcing plate and the machined stud on the abutment plate. All this had to be jigged and then welded. The loop stock has 2 pieces and one weld and is much more economical to produce. Now the STEN Mk2 and 3 were designed at the same time and the butts were also designed at the same time but the Mk2 was introduced before the Mk3. You only need look at the lineage of the Mk3 to see it is a simplification of the Mk1 not the Mk2
  22. £500 for a Mk1 or £150 for a later Mk. Check out D&B.
  23. I'm currently looking for a Jeep to restore because I don't have the money for a complete and restored example. I also enjoy doing it my self (Which could be a reason why restored MVs don't always fetch the prices people expect) and so I've been watching ebay for a suitable Ford or Willys. What I have noticed is that the same examples come up with a reserve that isn't met and the bidding peters out at about £3000 to £3500. The reserve appears to be around the £4500 mark and so the vehicle doesn't sell. At the end of the day, the buyers are driving the market and it's only worth what some one will pay. And on that note, anyone know where there is a restorable jeep for £3000 -£3500?
