0 Tony B
A number of agencies were entitiled to use 'Crown Vehicles'. Don't know about MOT, but yes they are tax exempt. Back in 't day they had a purpleish red square with a black crown on the windscren.
0 attleej
Dear All, The REME Museum's Scammell Amazon tank transporter was a "Crown Vehicle" when operated by FVRDE / MOD PE. I think that there was a certificate involved so that there could be no misunderstanding. I don't know what the score was with an MOT. 0 andym
Isn't the important point here that it was a Crown Vehicle with the emphasis on the "was"? Any exemptions it may have had expired when it passed into civilian hands. Andy

Andy – Was a Crown Vehicle – The very point I was going to make not knowing what type of vehicle brought about the question while this is an excellent Forum possibly a phone call to the DVLA would be appropriate and remove guess work
0 retriever
when I got my goddess that had as its taxation class "crown vehicle" and I had to change logbook to historic before I could tax it as free tax. the same with my mates ex prison service vehicle
0 Tony B
There's no specific type of Crown Vehicle, I know of things varying from a Stonefeild to Nissan saloon car that were classed as Crown. It is the agency that owns them.
0 Markheliops
You need to change the V5 to historic or whatever the class is for the vehicle. Operating the vehicle listed as a Crown Vehicle is illegal as it is no longer owned or operated by the Crown. Markheliops
