Smithy
I know it's a couple of months away yet and we have only just had the D-Day Anniversary but does anyone know what is happening this year for the Market Garden commemorations? Are they going to be held over a weekend or do they go on for the duration of how long the operation went on for? Any help would be much appreciated. mcspool
Some dates and places, as far as I know these are the major events in The Netherlands: 11 - 13 September 2009: Keep Them Rolling "Achterhoekweekend", St. Isidorushoeve. See http://www.twente-achterhoekweekend.nl/. Tanks and other tracked vehicles are especially welcome! 19 September 2009: Paradropping, Ede. The vehicle part of this event is organised by Keep Them Rolling, see http://www.ktr.nl. 20 September 2009: crossing of the Waal Bridge, Nijmegen. Hope this helps, Hanno Edited June 12, 2009 by mcspool

Smithy
Smithy, See http://airborne-herdenkingen.nl/en/ for an up-to-date programme. HTH, Hanno Thanks for the updates Hanno and also others. At the time when I started the thread I was in a different job to the one I'm in now, so it wouldn't be possible to go anyway as booking time off is hard. Also it was very soon after returning from Normandy and I really was looking at perhaps doing something similar for Market Garden but as time went on it became less of an opportunity. mcspool
I was there yesterday with one of my kids. Did not meet any HMVF members as far as I know. But at such massive events it is easier to miss each other than to actually meet! Anyway, it was worth the trouble. The Para dropping was massive and impressive, and there were many interesting vehicles to see - with a good smattering of CMPs to boot! See my Market Garden 2009 G503 album for some pics (more to follow). For videos see Youtube. Jack
Great work. I am going to speak to Joris tomorrow to plan a trip for 2010. May be a 4-5 day trip ending at the commemorations. Think it needs to be done.
