Land Rover Series 2a colours

Hi All

 

can you help?

 

we have a late (1971) series 2a Ambulance.....

 

would these have been used in the Gulf ?

 

and if so what was the colour sceme ?

 

and has anyone got any photos ?

Ian, I would think I would of been out of serive long before then. Even early series 3's were in short supply by then!

They were using three's and 101's possibly some early Wolfs. The 101 I know for definte as mine was with 4th Armoured out there, also Bosnia. that wa sthe last active deployment of the 101's. The 2a would have been used in Aden I suspect. 1971 would be very very late for a 2a.

Not in 1991, the Wolf did not enter service till 1997.

2a ambulances were definitely still in service during the period of the London ambulance strike, which I think was at the end of 1989. I seem to think some lasted through until the point when all petrol Land Rovers were cast, think this was about 1996-97

The last of the 101's the ambulances were cast 1999. Ambulances seem to last longer in service. By the by , anyone know what paint code A6 is?

Thanks Ian, I was wrong with 96-97, it was around 1999 when all the petrol ones were cast.

At 30 Signal Regt we took delivery of our 1st Wolves in 1997, all the Series 3's were parked up on the airfield and got rid of by loads of car transporters in 1998, presumably to some place like Withams.

All the Series 3s went to MVS. I think Jacksons were still selling of the last of them last year for £100 to £400 a piece!
