What is a Mexe-hide?

The South Mids area have recently purchased a periscope from Malvern, its about 4ft long and the document with it says its a Trials Mexe-hide Periscope, but what is a Mexe-hide? Some sort of bunker?

 

And if any of you have a pic that would be very helpful, cheers Paul

Thaks Clive. To be hnest the only memory I definitely have of them is they were awful places to be -we never had the lights the pictures show, just the standard issue right angle torch.

FWIW - in the top picture the periscope that originally started this topic would have gone just behind the chap leaning on the table!!!
