Rlangham Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 FWD (Four Wheel Drive) Model B 3 ton Lorry, built in the USA but exported in large numbers for use by British and Commonwealth forces. The Land Warfare Hall at Duxford is extremely dark, so apologies for the bad quality Quote

Rlangham Posted August 15, 2008 Author Posted August 15, 2008 Cheers Tony, have a photo shop software thingamy on my computer, but I tend to brighten it as little as possible so I don't get too much 'noise' (ie when it goes all fuzzy) Quote
Tony B Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 I've got photoshop as well, just my lifes to short to read the manual. That was done in about 30 seconds on Pcassa. Also sorts photos as well. Quote
N.O.S. Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 The Land Warfare Hall at Duxford is extremely dark, so apologies for the bad quality That's done deliberately, so as not to disturb the sleeping beauties Quote
Tony B Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 Ah, so ! Now we know where the Dancing Girls have been hidden! And why the whippersnapper was getting so excited! It is well worth a vist though. The American Air force in Europe is superb. I was up that way when the B52 was put in, the building wa sthen finished around it. For thoise who haven't been the land Warfare Hall has a sand and rubble floor just the sort of enviroment the vehicles operated in, very effective. Quote
Old Bill Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 I can vouch for the sandy floor. When we were doing our FWD, we initially planned to put the British Army body on it. To find out how it should look, I arranged to go to Duxford and have a measure up of this one. I spent all day on the wrong side of the wire, exposing several films, measuring and making notes. When I finished, I realised that my modern rubber soles had left footprints absolutely everywhere, completely ruining the effect! I had to apologise in my thank you letter. Incidentally, this lorry is very original as I believe Wynns used it as a support vehicle before the Second War and as a sort of mascot up until the 70's. The IWM have rebuilt it and replaced the timber but all the ironwork is original. It is well worth a visit but, unfortunately, I have never seen it running. Steve Quote
Great War truck Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 (edited) Here is a link to ours going out for its first drive in 12 Months. As HMVF TV is no longer working i have put the clip on to Youtube. Edited February 5, 2009 by Great War truck Quote
Tony B Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 Make a damm good vehicle to train bus drivers on :-D Not so much a lock as an orbit. Now next question, will it be me or Ranglaham trying to spirit away. I know a nice bunch of well behaved (providing you hide the beer) gentleman who would love to ride in it. Quote
Rlangham Posted September 23, 2008 Author Posted September 23, 2008 Fantastic - certainly wouldn't say no to a ride in it too! I've got two pairs of WW1 goggles so could lend one to the driver.... Quote
