Smithy Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Last weekend I paid a visit to RAF Shawbury to see how the Horsa and Waco Gliders were coming on during their Vetrans Weekend. Here are some pictures I took whilest visiting. Included are the vehicles that turned up for the event and the three aircraft that were on display. Quote
Rick W Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Good pics, my home town made the wings for Horsa's in the Wolverton railway works, they repaired Hurricane and Mosquito wings there too. Quote
Great War truck Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 What a cracking job they are doing on the gliders. Is it the intention to make them fly? Tim (too) Quote

Although I'm pretty sure the Horsa is just going to be a static display as they have (from what I saw) cut a hole and added steps into the side of the hull. Now if this is able to come off I am not sure but wouldn't it be great to see them up in the air again. Although I don't think I would want to be in the air in one as there isn't much seperating you from the outside world!!!! Quote
Guest catweazle (Banned Member) Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Interesting pics cheers mate. Quote
Rlangham Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 They can't fly due to the CAA not letting them, probably fortunately! I'd love for them to do a Hamilcar afterwards, what a beast that would be Quote
martylee Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 Very nice! It's a good thing that these have been/ are being restored, they and the landing crafts both are pieces of important history. Marty Quote
airportable Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Hi. Just found this old thread. The three pics. of the vehicles are of myself and two mates I was with today! Good archive footage as I had no camera then. Thanks. Andy. Quote
