Jessie The Jeep
My mate George came around in his Jeep at the weekend. As he went to leave, the starter motor was turning over but not engaging with the engine. I cranked it on my starting handle a couple of times but it wouldn't fire, then tried the starter again and it engaged and started. I presume it is the motor gear that engages with the engine, that is not moving into the engage position as the motor starts turning. What is the problem and what is the fix for the starter? Is it a simple lube job or something more? Steve
Tony B
Could well be. Did the engine swing freely on the starter handle? Worth taking it out and cleaning The Bendex gear. May not do it again for a long time.
commander
This could be a battery going flat as well Commander
Jessie The Jeep
Thanks. The engine was the same to turn over as mine is. I know the starter has done this several times before now I recognise the sound. I didn't realise at first, but popped the hood and saw the the enging wasn't turning over. Batteries are new, so aren't the issue. Must be the gear. Steve
Tony B
First choice brushes, second choice muck. Both curable at same time.
