Surveyor
This Question stems from the link; http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?22506-buried-and-abandoned-tanks I know of the Ordnance Survey Reference and the use of Latitude and Longitude to locate a position. What other systems are there and how are they converted to Lat and Long for GPS? Many thanks Edited July 11, 2016 by Surveyor spelling

Bob Grundy
Mils in use instead of angles.3600 mils to a circle. In the 1970's I am sure there was 6400 mils to a circle.
Degsy
In the 1970's I am sure there was 6400 mils to a circle. There are 6283 mils in a circle but for use on a compass this is usually rounded up to 6400 as you say, however some military users round it down to 6000 on the compass. Needless to say there is plenty on the internet on this subject.
