cordenj
My "new" truck. Imported back to UK yesterday, 70 years after it left for France, with help of good friend James Gosling. This Chevrolet was subject to an extensive three year restoration from 2002 to 2005 with great skill and persistence by Maarten Broekhizen in the Netherlands. The data plate in the cab is: C - 60448 - M - GS - 9 Here are few photos: White Cliffs of Dover and new home: I am very interested to know if there is a specific manual or instruction book for the Wrecker. Thanks

rubbatiti
I always think those beautiful art deco instrument panels look strangely out of place in an austere CMP cab!

True, but they look even more out of place in a Universal Carrier Cheers, Terry
cordenj
Getting the NOVA letter from Customs & Excise and then applying for a historic registration from DVLA all went remarkably smoothly. The Chev has a nice new set of black/polished aluminium plates. While waiting for the bureaucratic wheels to turn I sourced some magnetic Hi-Vis signage for the back of the truck. Having been at the scene of two very serious RTC's where modern vans/cars have driven into friend's vehicles, I am very alert to the risk of driving slow vehicles in modern traffic. The next safety measure is to fit a Xenon flashing amber beacon (12v from a separate battery) We took the truck out for its first UK outing in more than 70 years on Saturday. Thanks to James Baxter and James Gosling for helping to get it started and acting as "escort" in the HUP. As the engine hadn't been started for three weeks, all the petrol had drained back into tank, and on an icy morning the 6v battery struggled to pump up enough fuel and then start the engine. On my Jeep I have a fuel pump with manual primer lever, but not on this Chev. Photo shows the pump fitted. Is there an pump option for the Chev 216 engine with manual primer? As I believe this will greatly help starting
Pete Ashby
On several Chevs I have successfully fitted an electric pump in line between the the tank change over switch and the pump. You can hide it up under the frame rail and hide the electric switch out of the way in the cab. On first start (or hot restart for that matter) turn on the pump listen for the clicking to stop turn off the pump and start as normal running on the manual pump. You should be able to pick up a suitable 6 volt pump using a web search. Pete

Interesting that you've successfully installed them in Chevs. Will investigate further.

Starfire
As far as I know, all of the CMPs at the museum have an in-line electric fuel pump fitted too. Most of them just run constantly when the ignition is on. You can't beat the simplicity of a mechanical pump, but electric just works so much better Cheers, Terry

cordenj
Earlier in this thread I raised the question about fuel pump priming after the truck has stood for a couple of weeks. Following on from comments received (thanks Pete and Terry), I decided to fit an electric fuel pump to be used to pump up fuel before starting. The C60s is still running all original 6v systems, and the only suitable 6v pump I could find was more than £100. But I've already fitted a 12v high capacity leisure battery in a wooden box behind the left-hand step to run the Xenon warning beacon and sat-nav. Just charging it up from mains when necessary. So found a 12v FACET pump on Ebay for £20 and have fitted it behind chassis by the 12v battery using a mounting plate and original holes in chassis. A toggle switch mounted on cab floor allows me to manually pump up fuel to start and then the engine runs on the normal diaphragm pump. I think an added advantage of this set up could be that if it gets fuel evaporation in hot conditions, can use pump to overcome the block. This might be a possible more cost effective solution for others looking to fit an electric pump to 6v vehicle. cordenj
I've been watching several of these very interesting Newsreel clips on Youtube. Lots of good views of CMPs, but one that really attracted by attention was No 54: At 8mins 30s there is a short clip of a Cab 13 C60s Wrecker. This is the first WWII period film of have seen of these vehicles....just thought other owners would also be interested to see one on the move in Italy.
