fv1609
What are these markings all about? The number top left is just for identification purposes. You can have a go at as many or as few as you wish at any one time. (The ratio of the image sizes is not important, its just the way they happened to turn out)

fv1609
No.2 Drive on the right ? A good interpretation Richard, I hadn't thought of that. But its something else & the marking would be smaller than those on a road sign.
wally dugan
are these all map symbols
fv1609
are these all map symbols Wally it certainly looks as if they might be that sort of thing, but nope. Some of these are related to each other & some are not. Although all these particular examples happen to come from the same era.
wally dugan
number one meeting point?
fv1609
number one meeting point? A good line of thought Wally, I can see what you mean, but its not that. Actually 1 & 2 have the same meaning, they are just examples of the same thing. The important thing is that the arrows are close to each other to convey this meaning. Yes Richard very good well done! likewise for GRP III .... Group III Clothing, VAOS Section A1 and A2? Yes Richard very good well done! Clover leaf symbol ........... is that something to do with food or rations? Nope, wrong colour :-D
fv1609
So that just leaves these: So we have 1 & 2 that have the same meaning. 4 & 5 are very unlikely to be used together & never with
Richard Farrant
No. 7. Is this the symbol assigned to ammunition cartridges to show that it is interchangeable between different weapons?
fv1609
No. 7. Is this the symbol assigned to ammunition cartridges to show that it is interchangeable between different weapons? It isn't Richard. I have never actually seen this symbol in use but as this is from a 1950s publication I assume it has long since become redundant. Richard Farrant
It isn't Richard. I have never actually seen this symbol in use but as this is from a 1950s publication I assume it has long since become redundant. I will have another stab at the yellow trefoil (no.7), it is the distinguishing mark used when RASC transported POL supplies via railway, etc. Edited October 6, 2014 by Richard Farrant
Redherring
Surely the legume would normally be green? So does yellow suggest something is off or dry? Horse feed?

fv1609
No.4 connects them all, InteligenceHQ :-D 1- Latrine closed 2- Latrine open 4- Inteligence HQ 5- VD Warning But i could be wrong Charlie I think you might have been peeping :-D:-D :-D As many know by now I label the photo info with sometimes unusual or slightly misleading content to see who peeps. So by now few people take the image info seriously. But one answer has been lurking there for the taking! So Charlie, 5 is actually correct! Well done :-D 'V' was to be marked on the clothing of VD patients. Incidentally can anyone say how such patients would be identified on a troop ship?
