agmerlin
Hi Folks, Have been ploughing through various sites on t'internet trying to identify the insignia on my late uncles battle dress tunic, Found most of them but can anyone please identify the one in the photo? Many Thanks Andy
g0ozs
Might it be related to Northern Ireland (the Red Hand is a heraldic emblem of Ulster) ? Regards Iain
Richard Farrant
I suspect it is a formation connected with Ulster or N. Ireland
agmerlin
Well, I must admit I thought the "hand" was something to do with Ulster but as far as I know my Uncle never had anything to do with Ireland or any Irish Regiments. He spent most of his Army career in the Royal Artillery and Combined Ops out in North Africa and the far East!!! The insignia above the one in the photo I believe is Anti Aircraft. Bit of a puzzle! agmerlin
Ahaaa! mystery solved! After a bit more digging it seems that uncle was in the RA HAA number 8 regiment before he came out in 1947 and number 8 was the Belfast Regiment. Hence the hand. Thanks is for the steer guys. andy
wdbikemad
Yep, the formation patch is the "bow and arrow" of RA AA Command/Division..........the other, the "red hand" of Ulster.......
wdbikemad
Family BD....don't you just love it ? !! My grandfather's "best" BD.......original insignia to the 5th Battalion Seaforth Highlanders, 51st Highland Division..........he was a Sgt by then....issued to him in Germany late-1945 (Canadian blouse).........
