Same scene from ground level or rather water level, a Pathe news film of the same 1947 Berkshire floods with a real assortment of military vehicles rescuing stranded residents and possibly the same Sherman tank which appears at about 2min 35sec into the film rescuing a ditched Austin K5

Did you see the Dodge WK60 breakdown gantry in the background early on?

Yes did notice it and the FWD, the "Bordon Flyer" chalked on the GPA amphib Jeep is probably a clue to most of the stuff was from the REME at Bordon

Misdescribed as a DUKW in the description shown below the picture.

There a photo on a wall/Office (think its the local rag) in Maidenhead of a Sherman being used to help in the floods, ai wonder if this is the same one. I have it on the puter at home and will dig it out when I get off work.

Interesting clip that and here's another, more GPA's a DUKW and apparently a Sherman DD ironically swamped, obviously a big Army involvement, wonder what they could provide theses days ?

Yep saw it Richard, passed the link onto David. Surprised to see one still on charge in 1947 I wonder if it was operating with a Territorial unit

Regards

Pete,

as it is 1947, I was not sure if REME were at Bordon then. (Bordon Flyer on GPA) and wondered if they might have been Canadians as it was their main workshops during the war. Also about that time there were 100's of Canadian trucks gathered at Borden for disposal sales there. Only a thought.
