Seriously though I can't believe the fella is standing in the loco still. Brave ,or mad , or is it that he knows he is safe with a Jimmy?

 

I know !! I wouldn't want to be going more than a crawl round most corners with the centre of gravity as high as it must be with that load ! :)

Great photo!

 

Seeing that it has a license plate on the rear drivers side I would assume that this is not in military service... that and the dump bed is non-standard, and other bits that are not quite right.

 

My guess would be that the fuel tank was ruptured long ago, and an something elese was rigged up (most likely betrween the frame rails a'la the Chevy 1.5 Ton.

Remember the CCKW was *always* rated for 10,000lbs of cargo, just limited to 5,000lbs for cross country driving. I've seen a CCKW loaded down so much that the frame was riding on the axles/bumpers with no ill effects.
