Magirus-Deutz crane vehicles at R.E.M.E in Berlin

Recommended Posts

Hello all together,

I'm a little helpless!! Since about 2 years I write on a book about all ever built Magirus-Deutz crane trucks. The company in Ulm, Germany short: KHD - Klöckner-Humboldt-Deutz AG has produced exactly 70 vehicles. Five of these vehicles were stationed in West-Berlin at the R.E.M.E ( Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers ) during the Cold War.

Very like I want to write also about these five Magirus-Deutz KW16 crane trucks. Unfortunately, today it's very difficult for me to get all the interesting information about these vehicles. In my archive I've some few photos of just two of the five Magirus-Deutz KW16. But where are the other three cranes? In which unit in Berlin where they stationed? What was the mission etc. etc. ???

Take a look on this photo. There you can see always the same two Magirus-Deutz KW16 cranes. The other three are still existing but two of them in a bad condition, see the photo below.

For my book I'm looking for information and photos about the five R.E.M.E cranes from Berlin. I wrote several times to the historical Museum ( REME ) near London. The Technical Historian Brian Baxter was so friendly and has tried to get any information for me. Unfortunately, no result. But he remains working on the matter.

Now I start my next attempt here in this huge forum and try to get what I need for my complete history of the five Magirus-Deutz KW16 at R.E.M.E in Berlin.

Therefore I ask all former soldiers they where stationed at the R.E.M.E units in Berlin, all persons they worked within the mechanical units, all drivers of the Magirus-Deutz KW16 cranes, officers, privat persons, civilian employees and all the other peoples they can remember on these five Magirus-Deutz crane trucks.

On the Parade photo you can see the license plates so like: 22 XG 52 and 22 XG 48, but which numbers had the other three?

If anyone could tell me something about these trucks, please let me know. I would be very happy and I've the possibility to write an very interesting article about the five "Berliners".

Many thanks and I hope to here from you soon.

Whow, that sounds great! Hope you have success! I'm happy about the smallest information of the five Magirus-Deutz vehicles that time in berlin.

If there were five of these vehicles serving with the Berlin Brigade and two of them were 22 XG 52 and 22 XG 48 it seems likely that the other three would have been 22 XG 49, 22 XG 50, and 22 XG 51.

Oh yes, I've even thought of that! But I have no evidence. Who has any documents or photos?

Thanks Klaus
