Rauceby War Years Weekend 2013

August 24th,25th 26th 2013

Looking for somewhere to go this Bank Holiday Weekend then look no further. Travel back in time to see & hear what your parents, Uncles, Aunts and Grandparents did:

The Mid Lincs MVT is holding their 5th War Years weekend on the above date this year. We are a non-profit making event so any monies raised after expenses will go to the charities, Air Ambulance, Royal British Legion and Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Please visit our website www.raucebywarweekend.co.uk to have a look at what it’s all about, It is also to help keep people informed or you can phone 01529 488354 or 07713074418 to get further advice. We have a large marquee booked to hold a 1940’s Victory Ball for three hundred people on Saturday night with the Ashby Big Band and supported by Paul & Natasha Harper, Paul being an ENSA entertainer and all backed by the most popular DJ Major Swing. This is a ticket only dance. Tickets are £12. The entertainment on Friday and Sunday night is free. The marquee will also be used for various demonstrations like fashion shows, hair demonstrations (have your hair done 40’s style for the evening dance), and dancing etc.

We will be having living history displays, re-enactors (people promenading in all sorts of different uniforms), and a large selection of military vehicles and classic cars with various stall holders Military & Civilian selling their wares to keep the public entertained. We are also having an arena where we will be having a staged battle each day (can be quite noisy), Vehicle parades (Military & Classic cars, Military band playing and demonstrations involving the public. We also put in our request for the Battle of Britain memorial flight to do a flypast. We have plenty of entertainment for the children with an old fashioned funfair, and some participation events for them to join in like Grenade throwing and rifle cum boot camp drill.

There is plenty of food sold on site with a NAFFI selling homemade wartime type sandwiches and cakes (unfortunately not 1940’s prices). There is also a bar selling real ales amongst other drinks to help quench your thirst. If you purchase a ticket for the Saturday night you have the chance to purchase real Ale at wartime price of 6d/pint (must produce 6 old pennies).

Come along to SEE, FEEL, SMELL & HEAR as well as talk to the living history display personel to get a feeling as to what it was like. The Entry fee is £5/person/day. Children who are 12 and under are free. Veterans, MVT Members and all car parking is free. We have plenty of camping for Tents,Caravans,Motor homes (Must be pre-booked. £4/night or £10 Max for 3 or 4 nights. You will also have to purchase your day tickets).Where else can you get all this entertainment for just £5. You can pre book your tickets and get them at £4/person/day with either a two day or three day pass. This is all educational to certain school children as they do the WW2 at school. So, dig out your outfits from the loft, get dressed up and come and be part of this grand event and help raise for the above charities whilst having fun. Once you have been to one you will want to attend more. I hope that you can support us in some way.

Hi Everybody,

I'm Steve Parry, a Wedding and Events videographer based in Lincolnshire. I was invited to produce a full length official DVD of the recent Rauceby War Weekend event which is now available for sale priced at £10 plus P&P. All proceeds of the DVD go to the 2012 event charities, the Royal British Legion, Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance and Marie Curie Cancer Care.

The DVD video run time is 1hr 33mins approx and features re-enactors in 1940s civilian and military uniform and dress, classic vehicle and weapons displays, a Spitfire flypast, an appearance by the Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance and much more. One of the highlights of the weekend, a 1940s dance for 300 people in the marquee is featured, with a host of nostalgic entertainers performing music and cabaret from the 1940s era. The video also includes original wartime footage and speeches sourced from historical archives.

The video closes with a Church service of remembrance and a recreation of a WW2 battle staged by re-enactment society "Bird Dog Platoon" and associates.

For now I thought I'd share the World War 2 re-enactment display I was asked to film as part of the 3 day shoot.

Thanks go to Bird Dog Platoon re-enactment society plus associates and the pyrotechnics team for their co-operation in making this video. Click here to view the video

Just got back from another fantastic weekend at Rauceby we have had the best turn out of reenactors and vehicles so far the show just gets better and better Paul and Natasha Harper played an absoloute blinder all weekend massive thanks to them Paul even took my jeep for a ride round. Saturday night went really well we had the usual Rauceby rain all night Sunday brightened up and we had the best attendance ever and Monday was very good as well , Tony Pearson and Martin Tasker set up a motor pool fixing poorly vehicles I think martin spent more time under a bonnet than then he did looking round well done lads . The atmosphere was really good all weekend fantastic flypasts by the BBMF vehicle parades ,Special thanks to William Micheal and James for running the rifle drill and grenade throwing for the children I looked across and thought we had a small army I don't where they all came from. The stall holders are all smiling and asking about next year so that's a good sign A massive thanks to all of the helpers who made the show tick with out you it would not happen . The girls in the naafi I think deserve the biggest thanks they worked with out breaks trying to keep the endless line of people fed and watered WELL DONE GIRLS. My biggest biggest thanks must go to William and Fiona Elkington (MR and Mrs Rauceby) who put in so much time and effort to make this show happen he is a really good mate and it is an honour to work with him on this event brilliant well done Roll on next year RAUCEBY 2014.
