:yawn: The Local Defence Volunters , later Home Gaurd was considered part of the obligatory service for those to YOUNG or old to join the forces, or those in reserved occupation. ARP, mostly women, and firewatching also counted. My Farther as he had Mine Rescue training was in the Heavy Rescue Squad.
