MiketheBike
I picked up a bargain CVRT shelter at W&P that had stuck zips. The zippers had some corrosion that has taken the bright off some parts of them. Using WD40 they freed up very well, but I am wondering will the WD40 rot the canvas or the plastic parts of the zips? Should I give it all a good wash now they are free? Any views on what I should use on them now to keep them from corroding again? Cheers Mick
0 ferrettkitt
I am sure that I enquired about this on the forum quite awhile back from memory I think I was advised to use candle wax or petroleum jelly on the zips. I would wipe the zips off and remove any excess wd40 and use candle wax to lubricate the zips.
0 rdx10
Have you considered silicone zip sprays which you'd get from camping / outdoors type shops.
0 MiketheBike
Thanks for that... will check out the silicon spray option. although the vaseline one may be cheaper
0 Pete Ashby
Rub a soft lead pencil along both sides of the zip cheap, works well and the pencil will last for years Pete
0 Tony B
Margarine or butter or cooking oil. Basically any sort of lubricant. The pencil lead is Graphite, and a dry lubricant is obviously a lot cleaner. Edited August 8, 2012 by Tony B
