rnixartillery Posted July 22, 2012 Posted July 22, 2012 I picked up this Breech Block and need some one who can positively ID it ! It is a 76mm block and I believe post WWII. Rob...................rnixartillery. Quote
timbo Posted July 22, 2012 Posted July 22, 2012 Rob Just found a couple of better pictures in my Scorpion user manual (for the 76mm L23) and I cant be sure but the block looks quite different. The guide ribs and recesses in particular look different. Of course, Im going from drawings rather than an actual block so cant be sure. Could it be Saladin - was the gun the same? Tim Quote
timbo Posted July 22, 2012 Posted July 22, 2012 Just did a bit more research - apparently the Saladin had the L5 rather than the L23 (which was an improved version) so I guess it could be one of those.. Tim Quote
timbo Posted July 22, 2012 Posted July 22, 2012 Just found quite a decent pic of a Saladin block on Facebook (of all places!) and I have to say it looks different to that too....very odd.! Quote
rnixartillery Posted July 22, 2012 Author Posted July 22, 2012 Thanks Tim, I have a feeling it could be a Yank Block ! Rob....................rnixartillery. Quote
Adrian Barrell Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 Rob, it looks like a Sherman 75mm block to me, though I think the 76mm Sherman gun used the same block. Quote

Interesting Adrian ! it does have a number stamped on the back just under the FMA I will check it but I think it is prefixed with the letter D. The Block is NOS and has never been used.it is surplus to requirements ! Rob...............rnixartillery. Quote
rnixartillery Posted July 23, 2012 Author Posted July 23, 2012 Well Adrian I think you have hit the nail on the head ! Just pulled an old Sherman manual out and there it is. I was assuming it was post war because of its condition. Is anyone looking for a Sherman Block ! Rob.............rnixartillery. Quote
timbo Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 Rob B**ger i was going to suggest Sherman 75mm but only because it was the only thing I could think of with a similar calibre..! Quote
