tim gray
Yup, seen that one in the flesh as it were as i picked up some minor bits and bobs from him (fuel tanks, tank trays, bonnets, minor spares) er perhaps not so minor after all !!!!!!Would still like a 15CWT but minor crises on the horizon as i am loosing the storage i have soon so i have to find an affordable home for the PU.Regards Tim
Ben..
Did either of these two sell? Does anyone know if they're still available? Thanks
mcspool
AFAIK Rory Ballard's project was sold to a HMVF member, see http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?46181-1941-Morris-Commercial-8cwt-PU-Restoration-2014
Ben..
I can watch Julian rebuild that one. I must keep my eyes open for another..... Thanks
thedawnpatrol
Hello Ben Yes, as you now know I bought Rory Ballard's 'project' last year, and have just started the rebuild. however, I think between Rory and I we will have a lot left over, including a spare chassis and other structure, also a lot of patterns. if your interested in a real jigsaw let me know. all the best Jules
Ron
I have the bare remains of a 4x4 Morris PU. Saved from a rotten chassis stored in a woods for years. Axles/gearbox/engine etc. Ron
thedawnpatrol
Ron I know I should know this.............but is that the 6 cylinder engine in the 4x4 ? Jules
Ron
Correct Jules. It's basically the same engine as your 4x2 but is a bit more high powered. I can't remember the full specifications but a higher lift cam shaft for one thing. Rory would know for sure. Ron
thedawnpatrol
Ah yes, of course Ron. Nice to see you found a nice 'Morris green' for your engine, I'm just about to source something, do you know if there is a commercial colour on the market ? something in a can say from Halfords ? MHillyard
I too would be interested to know what the colour used was :-)
Ron
Jules/Martyn the colour for these Morris engines is Brunswick Green. There has been debate about whether it is mid or dark Brunswick. I have used BS 226 Mid Brunswick Green. Which you can check out at your local auto paint shop. thedawnpatrol
Great, thanks for that Ron. Jules
thedawnpatrol
Here's the remains of some original colour on my PU gear Box plenty of Brunswick green on ebay !
Ron
Ah I see you have a generator pulley on your PTO. Mine has an air pump. Ron
thedawnpatrol
yes, as it was a wireless truck, would be interesting to see diagrams of the rest of the set up, where the belt went too ?
Ron
Here it is. The dynamo is mounted on a heavy plate just above the PTO. I have the spec of the type of dynamo and regulator used. Ron
thedawnpatrol
So, Ron, I looks like in the drawing the pulley wheel is wrong ? it looks like the dynamo couples straight to the unit ? I cant see a belt ? Jules
Ron
Yes I think you are right on closer inspection. It looks like a direct drive. I'll post up the further information I have later when I get chance to scan it. Ron
Ron
Here is the further information for the Wireless battery auxiliary charging system. Of course I don't know if it's exactly the same for the 4x2 Morris PU. Ron
Ivor Ramsden
This is the PU set up. It's a belt-drive so your pulley is correct, Jules. Edited December 5, 2014 by Ivor Ramsden

goanna
I have been gathering info on the PU 8 cwt since 1998 . A few of these vehicles have turned up out here and the evidence suggests they arrived via the Middle East . I know of another PU Morris owner here in Victoria , his example is a earlier than my two , having the hub caps on the wheels . The recent Aussie winner of the Vanderveen award told me of his experience learning to drive in a Morris PU just after the war . His father had purchased the PU and he , a young teenager ,took it for drives unlicensed . I do have more info on the wireless installation , the Blandford archives revealed a nice manual with pics
