Blackhawk Posted May 10, 2012 Share Posted May 10, 2012 I was named for an uncle killed in Normandy with the 2nd Regt. Fife & Forfar Yeomanry Cavalry. As a US armor officer I served in 1st Squadron First Armored Cavalry Regiment, Americal Division in Vietnam. Presently I'm on a veterans committee planning for restored WW2 LST 325 to visit Nashville, Tennessee September 18-25, 2012. Arrranging for enthusiastic reenactors and visitors are included among my recent activities. LST 325 was involved with the invasions of Sicily, Salerno and Normandy making 44 trips between England and France, June 1944-April 1945. As a point of intrest LST 324 built 19 August 1942 was the only British manned LST involved in the Liberation of the Channel Islands on may 9th 1945, the rest were U.S. Navy manned. The LST's were quite extraordinary vessels, built for just one purpose. I have to plan a visit to her next time go to the US on holiday. Goran N Large Slow Target. :-D Though in the 1960's a RN LST was used to transport a generator armature to Jersey. It was the only thing that could. My Dad took me down to St Aubin's bay to se it.
