robin craig
This document makes for sober reading and certainly answers a question that was on the minds of many at the time. I apologise if many of you in the UK already know about this, but those of us in the colonies didn't hear about this in the early 2000s http://www.mod.uk/NR/rdonlyres/4625B8A4-C533-4DAD-9FA5-0BFEE58F8D69/0/op_corporate1982_nuclear_weapons.pdf R Edited March 5, 2012 by robin craig

paulbrook
At the time, virtually any RN ship with a helicopter would (or could) carry the "600lb bomb". Andy Indeed. And notwithstanding the obvious high profile of the FI liberation the war we were all fighting was the cold one, with russian subs being top of the Andrews List of Things To Do. Tony B
I was told on joining 'The Purpose of Her Majesty's Royal Navy is to carry Britian's Nuclear Detterent'.

berna2vm
My late father, was a keen advocate of lobbing a Polaris Argentina's way! It would have been a better idea than the losses we suffered fighting ruthless aggression.
Niallmhor
They should have sunk the all the Argentina's Navy in one go instead of just one ship!
honeileen
Going Nuclear would have been a quick end to the Argy problem, But you got to remember the cold war was still on and big brother was watching Britians every move:wow: dont think Maggie wanted end of the world as well as her career:D:D:D Christian
AlienFTM
In February 1982 BFBS Radio in Germany carried a report from the House of Commons during the Replace Polaris With Trident debate. I think it was Lord Carrington stood up and demanded to know what, without a nuclear deterrent, HMG would do if some tinpot dictator walked into a British dependency. Three months later all I could think was, "Tinpot dictator walks into British dependency? BA is going to get a bucket of sunshine, special delivery."
