tacr2man
Back in early 70's IIRC I owned a vehicle I would describe as a crewbus based on a jeep4x4 chassis . It was forward control with 3 doors ( 1 at rear) . I think they were used on US aircraft carriers to run crew about ? Does anyone know their designation or have any pics ? I have never seen one since !

Gerry275
Hi, FC-150/170 were from '56 to '65 in pickup, double cab, van and ambulance- look like vw campers. The navy used diesels for safety reasons. this from "military jeep buyers bible" Regards Gerry
Nick Johns
A friend had grey hardtop van FC Jeep (Navy)? years ago, powered by Cerlist 3 cylinder two stroke supercharged diesel, it sure had a good exhaust note http://www.thefcconnection.com/cerlist_diesel.htm Edited March 3, 2012 by Nick Johns
Pavy8
i never knew the navy opted for diesels, i didnt even know they were available in the FC's. as far as designations go - M-676 Truck, Cargo, Pick Up M-677 Truck, Cargo, Pick Up w/4 door cab M-678 Truck, Carry All M-679 Truck, Ambulance on source says about 600 M-67xx FC's were ordered by the military, another says 1000. further information on http://olive-drab.com/idphoto/id_photos_willys_fc.php hope this helps, it'd be interesting to see one of these driving across the deck of a carrier. Re diesels- my source said navy didn't like idea of ship's carrying petrol. ahh yes, now that that's been said it makes perfect sense :-P some how on all my visits to that site, i managed to skip over this little bit "3 cyl 170cid Cerlist 85hp 2 cycle diesel engine was typical". hahaha. i know that vast majority of the civvy FC's had the gasoline powered 'hurricane' I4's Edited March 3, 2012 by Pavy8
tacr2man
Thanks for the brilliant reponses, but it defo had a normal 4cyl petrol sv engine , probably a m678 body as it was like the ambulance but with windows IIRC the roof was a bit more rounded tho ?
