Jack
Ok, so Jesse and I were at a losse end today as Oddball had bottled out on a road run so Jesse and decided to go and do what we used do - we went back to our roots. So we grabbed our kit, Hootchies, billhook, knife, paracord, billycans, Strikeforce firesteel, rucksacks, eggs, beans, bread, pepper, coffee, Titanium knifes and forks, and two dogs and one GMC. Then add a shed load of wind and rain...and headed of to the woods to do a bit of Ray Mears Bushcraft - Jess and I haven't done this since I moved into an office  Iwould like to draw your attention to my pot hanger skills So here are some pictures of our outing - and believe me it was pouring down and blowing a gale. Driving up to the woods: http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b107/richmorris/Track.jpg[/img] . Parked up in the Motor Pool http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b107/richmorris/GMCParked.jpg[/img] . Jess stood in a Fox Hole - which is actually a flint pit: http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b107/richmorris/JesseFoxHole.jpg[/img] Setting up the CP http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b107/richmorris/Hootchie1.jpg[/img] . Ran out of paracord so we made our own using an Ash sappling :-D http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b107/richmorris/AshString.jpg[/img] . Knocking up a cup of tea http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b107/richmorris/Pothanger3.jpg[/img] Making lunch - please take note of pot hanger and please take note of our toasting sticks Toast sticks http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b107/richmorris/Toast1.jpg[/img] . The Gorillapod - this is what I used to take the self timer image of jess and I eating lunch http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b107/richmorris/GP.jpg[/img] . The old Dorchester to Blandford road: http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b107/richmorris/DorchBlandroad.jpg[/img] . Joris
So you just drove into some woods and camped? Are you allowed to do that because you can't do that here, too many stupid rules...

Well not really Joris - the laws of tresspass in this country are outrageous. I have more rights of excess in Europe than I do in my own country $£ This woodland is owned by the Forestry Commission which is owned by the state, I think I am right in saying that the state is owned by the people - so by association is owned by me
ian2b
Jack, looks like you will be sorting out the food, fire and shelter if we get stuck when on the Dover Tunnel trip.

I continued to knock down air raid shelter walls.... See what the might of the Luftwaffe couldn't achieve accomplished by a British sledge hammer (and a maniac behind it!!!) :banghead: Hardyferret
Enigma
Well done Jack, I like the outdoors. I'd like to go to the Ardennes this winter with a survival vest, and some sleeping gear - no tent, just a shelter like in your pic. Offcourse it will get cold and maybe snow I'd like to stay 2 nights and 1 day or so just to see how to cope with it. Thing offcourse is to get 2 other guys to come along, not so many fools around. LeeEnfield
might find that F.C do have a thing about lighting fires, though, Jack;..............yes, I know it was pi**ing down,.......... ;-) that old road, a byway ?? sure I've used one that goes blandford towards dorchester. Mind you, that area, is criss crossed with them...
Jack
Yes you are quite right, the FC do not like open fires but the strange thing is that our native English woodlands do not burn - they are broadleaves! You have a better chance of getting asbestos to burn :schocked: If you take into consideration the moisture content of our broadleaves then you will see why they are fire proof - Ash being the driest of around 35%, most of our hardwoods are 50%+ with Elm coming in around 65% :schocked:
hardyferret
But Jack those clever learned people at the FC think that our little smouldering heap, (the fire not the jobbie) will turn into an Aussie bush fire!! Also you might want to stay and enjoy yourself in their??????????? wood and, perish the thought, camp illegally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What the eye don't see the heart don't grieve. martylee
Wow, this looks like a really nice trip you had. Me and the 5 year old goes on a trip like this every second monday, since both have the day off from work. We bring along some food, binoculars and some plastic guns as well. And of course the Dodge makes a perfect ride for us. We build some traps and such and hunt down a few commies as well. I'm not quite sure who has the best time!? For this summer we have already started planning "operation serpent", which is the invasion of a small island in lake Mjøsa. We found maps and recon photos of the island already. Will need some amphibious equipment to make. The assignment is to invade it and stay there for 24 hours, before we pull back. Schedulded to take place around july 1st. Photos of the island: http://img71.imageshack.us/img71/706/041203185wc7.jpg[/img]
