vincentvtwin
Hi, I saved this old ex army lorry from the gas axe last week, I saw it being dragged out of a wood where it had been a gamekeepers store for many years, it had been cut of and made into a trailer, it did have a body on the back on but it was smashed up just before I saw it so I dont know exactly what it looked like, it has 2 back axles so it was either a 6x4 or 6x6, the tyres are fairly small 10.50x16 and one has a brand which seems to be 1941, the only detail I can see is on the forward rear diff where it has cast 6 40 and NSF. I would like to identify it as it has a great design of suspension which I am still used to in oilfield trucks for desert locations and I also like the covered drive propshaft design. Surpisingly it towed ok after all the years it sat in the woods, good old engineering, I would appreciate knowing what it is and seeing an image of the original type. Thanks for any help given, regards, M. Richard Farrant
It could be a Fordson WOT1 6x4, they had torque tube drive shafts.
Ed Batchelor
well done for saving it! what does the future hold for it?
N.O.S.
It could be a Fordson WOT1 6x4, they had torque tube drive shafts. Would that be the County / Ford / Sussex drive bogie system?
Richard Farrant
Would that be the County / Ford / Sussex drive bogie system? To be honest Tony, it is difficult to say without seeing the front end, but with the WD divided wheels, I go for WOT1, which was successor of the Sussex 6x4

vincentvtwin
Hi to all, Thanks for the replies, unfortunately no front end as it had been converted into a trailer years ago, looking at an image of a WOT3 on this site today the R/Rear axle looks the same so I think a WOT1 sounds like a fair bet, interesting to hear about the County option, i presume these were conversions done after the war? Any links to WOT1 images appreciated as i have only found a few and mainly fire trucks. For the future, not much chance of myself doing anything with it as i have too many other projects on the go so I would gladly pass it on to anybody that needs it but looking on the net I cannot see many of them around. Regards the salvager!
Stefano
I'd be intersted in the rearmost axle, it would seem to be the same as that used in the WOT2, and I've been looking for one for ages.. Anybody got any idea whether the ratio is the same?
