FV601 (R.I.P.)
I agree with a lot you say Jack mate, but The following will get you instant ban. This site is accessible by anyone, including children. We can all screw up from time to time and I will not tolerate any of the rules below being broken, let me make this clear, if you break any of the rules below, you will be instantly banned and you will not be welcomed back. Links to pornographic sites Links to extreme religious/group sites Links to or pictures of violent images. Foul language Flaming of fellow members Flaming of any relevant business Flaming of any other MV group from anywhere around the world. We must not turn this into something that we might regret at a later date, correct me if I am wrong please. I am assuming you mean the part regarding flaming of an MV group Mark. That being the case what is to be depicted as flaming? Are we to denote that any criticism of an MV group be it constructive or derogatory be classed as flaming? That being the case most of the people that have posted to both this thread and the other regarding PW should now be receiving a ban from the moderating team. Whilst I appreciate you are trying to do what your position here states, moderate. Where does that leave those of us who have opinons that can be construed as flaming. For instance does my ode to a jimmy fall into the realm of flaming another member? I do not envy anyone who has the task of moderating such a forum as it is a fine line regarding decision calls at times. Perhaps a clarification is needed. Mark I'm a little confused by your post as well, I'm not clear what the definition of flaming is in this context, and more generally I thought we having a well moderated debate in this thread about generic issues regardless of club or individual.......... have I missed something ? regards Pete

Good point and have updated the rules to help clarify the situation http://www.hmvf.co.uk/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=49&topic=559.msg3348#msg3348 This is a good sign of a healthy site growing and I think instinctively we know where the boundaries are. woa2
Apathy, hmm... I am a member of a Militaria society in Aldershot (nothing to do with military vehicles), meeting once a month. The Sectreatary resigned last year due to ill health. No-one would take over the role of secretary, so my Wife is now the secretary and she is not even a member! We also have a Wine & Cheese evening, which was last meeting. My Wife and myself did all the food and wine, and no-one even offered to help clear away or help with the washing-up. We felt more than a little annoyed afterwards. Apathy, who cares about it?
john wheatley (R.I.P.)
I don't think this is anything new, thirty odd years ago I was a trade union organiser and branch secretary and I found there were only two issues that would bring out more than "the faithful few" one was a strike notice and the other was a pay rise, in short we all get what we deserve whether it's a club or a government. The more you put into a thing then the more you get out of it. Regards, John.
Jolly Jeeper
Just for the record, two committee people that have made me feel welcome with regard to MVs; 1. Brian from the Yorkshire MVT. At the April crank up (pics elsewhere on this site) he made a point of coming over and introducing himself because he'd seen us arrive in the Hotchkiss and realised we weren't regular Yorkshire MVT faces. 2. The committee of the Surrey IMPS (joined 'cos I work near where they meet) and a friend took me along. They made me most welcome during the meeting and asked about my MVs then during the informal pint and chat afterwards several members made a point of saying hello. I am grateful to them both. Rick W
I seem to live in a black hole where people have a like-minded interest, I would like to get something together for this area, even if its only a yearly bash at a local fete or too. So dont get too dispondent all! If anyone lives in the North Bucks/South Northants area give me a shout.

snowtracdave
I won't name the club spoken of but in conversation with a mate this week I was told that the 'Them & Us' attitude is still very prevalent in his club - to the extent that he doubts he will renew his membership when it comes due . He tells me that if you are not one of the old established members you feel very much sidelined as various shows are referred to obliquely & it is taken as read that everybody knows where to go , when to arrive etc . And anyone with a PW vehicle is very much a second class citizen"oh yes , well , they're cheap aren't they ? No don't know anything about them ,they're not of any interest" etc etc etc . As has been said previously - if you happen to be afflicted with shyness (& I use that term advisedly) then it can be really hard to to make those first enquiries and to become a part of the group . Those who feel that it an unequal fight to become accepted may well have possessed talents and knowledge which could have been of great benefit to someone or everyone in the club at some future time had they been made more welcome .
