pigdog
Thought I would remove the main jets to clean some of the gum out, but after putting them back on I discovered the gum was sealing them so now they weep gas a bit. Looking to replace the washers and find they are aluminum and sized 11.1mm and 9.3mm. Where does one find replacements for these? Doing the internet search I'm comming up empty. Also I'm in the states so if anbody knows where to get them here would be good. ??? -Chris Edited April 18, 2011 by pigdog

Fugly
Hi Chris Maybe if you try converting the MM measurement to an old imperial measurement and search again you may find more options? its just a thought and hope it helps ! jim Thought I would remove the main jets to clean some of the gum out, but after putting them back on I discovered the gum was sealing them so now they weep gas a bit. pigdog
I did a conversion and am still having no luck finding anything. I cant believe a stupid little washer is such a PITA trying to find. What the hell happens when I need to replace something rarer than a bloody washer?

What the hell happens when I need to replace something rarer than a bloody washer? You're snookered is the answer... Use copper washers as has already been suggested if you can not find the aluminium type. You really haven't much choice if you can not find a supplier or a supplier that you find the prices reasonable for. Up this neck of the woods I have seen someone selling bits and pieces for carburettors at Tatton Park car show (not much use to you I know) but from memory they had alloy washers. So someone has them
Diana and Jackie
Imperial copper washers are not hard to find on ebay, including kits. some of the metric sizes will also fit (depends on the bolt size). As a temporary fix use ptfe tape, wrap ir around the washer lengthwise, 5 or 6 turns usually does it. Heating up copper washers usually softens them enough so that they re-seal - Dont like aluminium washers. You could also try any company that sells hydraulic lines and piping/fittings. Richard Farrant
Solex carbs are made to metric dimensions and threads, why not try a carb specialist in the US who caters for Solex. You will find these washers are more than likely a standard size on many types of their carbs. Another approach is to contact a carb specialist in the UK, eg. Carburettor Exchange for instance. Aluminium washers are better when tightening on diecast carb bodies, and the correct thickness is also important.
FoolsHumor
I do not want to knock a dealer out of a sale, but if you have no luck finding them let me know and I will make a few. I would need yourself or someone to supply an OD, ID and thickness. We can only assume what alloy and temper. Regards, Bob
pigdog
I got some red hard fiber washers that are close. They seem to be thinner though. Is a fiber washer ok to use on a carb? I'm still searching. I actually won a NOS carb on Ebay but the seller wont ship to the US. New carb for $140. Thats the cost of a gasket kit for it. Rotten luck. I will be looking at copper also. Contacted the carb hospital in the UK and they couldnt help. Bob thanks for the offer on making washers. I will let you know if I come up empty.
