question Who knows what this German rev counter is from??

Hi all,

 

Am trying to find out for what vehicle/tank this german VDO rev counter is from, 300-3500 revs.

 

On the back it says W 1:2 3-42 and a white unreadable stamp, possibly a 2

 

 

Have tried to find pictures of german dashboards, but nothing sofar.

 

Please let me know, if someone recognizes it!

If it is anything like the modern VDO gauges it wont work.

 

We have the newer ones in several different vehicles and they dont last worth a %*$%

Mike, that's very good! at least we have a lead on something, will be at a collector friend of mine near Paris, next month, and he has one of those, so will check it out.

I suspect it is an off the shelf item fitted to several types of vehicle. Probably ties in with the power plant fitted. I used to deliver to the VDO factory outside Frankfurt - mostly returns for repair. Quite a lot of them, too!

i dont see anything similar in any of the tank dashes....... not that photos of the dash are very common

 

Also looked in a Merc wartime truck book but nothing same

 

was blind luck I opened the Sd Kfz 251 book........... looks damn near identical in the first piccy with the needle starting at the 11oclock position and the shaded area on the right. Anyway, just trying to earn my beer :-D
