Carruthers
Does anyone have experience of intrument restorers, or would recommend, or not recommend any particular company. I have several Smiths 2" gauges that need sorted. Some idea of what I might expect to pay would be handy to thanks Simon Edited February 9, 2010 by Carruthers spelling error

ferrettkitt
I've used speedograph before for a speedo cable I wasn't unhappy with the result. http://www.speedograph-richfield.com/
Carruthers
Thanks Clive/Andy for your help. After posting, and thinking that Speedograph may be in pole position for my business, i found a place called the Gauge shop which used original Smiths calibration gear etc. Rang the guy up and had a really encouraging phone call, so i will call speedy cables and speedograph and make a decision, and then will post about the results. cheers Simon
woa2
I met a man at Beaulieu Autojumble a couple of years ago who said he could repair my Fuel Gauge. I never got round to contacting him back, but his details are :- Adrian Sidwell, PO Box 1576, Gillingham, Dorset SP8 5WZ email is adrian@sidwellassoc.freeserve.co.uk As it's in Dorset, does Jack know him? listerdiesel
Caerbont Automotive Instruments http://www.caigauge.com/ Might not do repairs, but they are what is left of the original Smith Industries instrument business. Rick W
I used speedy cables before. Very good, though bloody expensive, price depends on type of guage.
Iain Crosbie
I recently asked Caerbont if they could repair an old Smiths instrument, and they recommended this company: Speedy Cables Ltd Abercrave Swansea SA9 1SQ Tel: 01639 732213 Fax: 01639 732238 As they took a little while to reply to me, I got impatient and managed to fix the gauge myself, so I have not yet tried Speedy and can't therefore comment on their service. JoelH
A very interesting topic, dials of this age are normally radioactive so if you are looking to repair it yourself then that may be somthing you wish to consider.
john wheatley (R.I.P.)
Hi Gang, I used the gaugeshop, all one word and the guy there couldn't have been more helpful. Regards, John
