  1. Hello Paul, A nice looking truck. Have you any history of how it ended up in russia?
  2. yeah you don't see many bears in stockport. No one else seem's to have noticed it so may be its just us!! I thought it looked like ian's old one.
  3. Nice looking truck. Is it just me, or is there a bear walking past it in the first picture?
  4. The germans useds load of the british stuff. It is quoted somewhere how many captured vehicles the germans used and i think it's about 40% by 1943. Have a look here, http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=80610&sid=6289bae4da54c82391e9791b48ea40fd
  5. hello, The ob rear dif is 6.17-1. I found this site, http://www.acwbedford.com.au/Bedford%20FAQ.html I wonder if the early j type diff could be used? 4.7-1 sounds better. John.
  6. Hello Baz, Bedford brakes are starting to become harder to get hold of. I needed one cylinder for the mw last year and the cheapest i could find was £100 for an original O type cylinder. In the end i had mine re-honed and resealed and luckily it took and i haven't had any leaks so far, finger crossed. The j type Bedford wheel cylinder is the same apart from the bleed nipple is a different size to the banjo fitting, so they are handed, where as the o type can go on either side. The easiest way round it is to drill and tap the smaller hole to the bigger size and then you have a straight replacement. Or if you fitting a pair i don't think anyone would notice the nipple size. Bernie smith has some j type cylinders at £70 each last time i asked. If you want his number PM me, he's usually at stoneliegh. And the chap that re-honed mine has the J type ones , at £70 also, so i could pass his number on too, if you like.:-D When i was looking for one john morter had some o type ones again at £125, but he wanted the old one back so he could have it re-sleeved. I did look into having my own done and i think i was near £100 to have them done, but I've heard some bad things about the re-sleeving since.
  7. Thats the fella, he had the crane off a scamell pioneer, in the back.
  8. Hello Bob, I think its still around, i remember a couple of hippo's on Q plates. At first i thought it was tommy snape's super hippo, but looking at this picture he's Q625 GDB not to far out. http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.planefacts.co.uk/military/l_to_w/thumbnails/hippo1_jpg.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.planefacts.co.uk/military/l_to_w/index.htm&usg=__47gaNFg21H52mmROcfq0SID9Z64=&h=70&w=100&sz=2&hl=en&start=48&um=1&tbnid=ghfv2JClnEpgIM:&tbnh=57&tbnw=82&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dleyland%2Bhippo%26ndsp%3D18%26hl%3Den%26rlz%3D1R2GPEA_en%26sa%3DN%26start%3D36%26um%3D1 There was another chap with a hippo from wigan/warrington called john, he did a lot of shows at one time but i haven't seen him since normandy 1994, i think he may well have your old one.
  9. Thats ok then, he put the video camera down to see if they were alright. I'm sure a lot of people have no idea how dangerous ice can be, as we very rarely see it as bad as it is at he moment. It still seems a bit sick to wait and video something like that.
  10. I think the bloke should throw himself out of the window. It's a bit sickening that someone would wait and video a situation he may well have prevented. The "look look here we go" is just chilling. Especially as there may well be serious injurys. Wonder what happened when they got around the corner.
  11. Well in chris, you do like a challenge. I remember looking at your bedford a thinking the same!!! Mig welding is a piece of cake, depending in the quality of the metal being welded. Spot welders are ok when working on new metal, even then they can be a bit hit and miss. The best alternative i've found is to drill 1/4 holes in one of the panels, clamp the two pieces together, mole grips either side of the drilled hole, then fill the drilled hole with weld, and near as dam it you have a spot weld. :-D.
  12. I'm not so sure about that, i've had a few problems since fitting one to the bedford, two coils, two caps and a rotor arm.
  13. I've had enough wind in my face, i need the luxury of the wind up windows!!! Me and my dad always had a thing for the danish ql's, but i keep missing them.
  14. I'm not sure there's that much undiscovered ww2 armour there any more. Not unless you have something to pull one of thoes shermans out, i'll find a good tree to anchor it to. :-D There's a QL have my eye on thoe....... just need to find a bigger shed.
  15. Thats not me by the way. But it certainly makes a nice picture. This chap and his friend came over and asked me where my uniform was. I asked them where their truck was!! We all laughed. They asked if they could have their picture taken in my truck then happily went on their way. How many people have asked me, why on earth i want a truck like mine? or what do you see in a truck like that? Generally I explain my interest and most people see the point. Each to there own i guess.
  16. I tried a couple of years back, it's even harder trying to get an email through to them. I did speak to the general in charge of the visits on the phone, and he spoke English very well. I just couldn't get an email through to them, to get the necessary clearance, i got one through, and then spent a few weeks trying to reply to it, in the end i gave up. Most of the time the emails just bounced back other times it would take a couple of days and they'd get returned. It does sound like quite an "experiance" visting the museum. Your picked up from your hotel and escorted around. How about a hmvf visit? :-D
  17. Thanks antar, i'll head that way!! If i hit germany i've gone to far!!!
  18. Hello Richard, I noticed the wings weren't right but i wasn't sure if they had just been reworked, I still think kpt higgingd has one "similiar" I cant find the picture right now, but here's a similar one he posted http://www.hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?t=10507&page=10 I think your right richard it's probably a rebuild of a number of trucks.
  19. I think this is what your looking for, http://freespace.virgin.net/chris.shillito/a22new/register/thelot.htm
  20. Hello, Can anyone help me out. I read a thread on here about some Sherman's buried in Holland as defensive positions, but i can't find it now. Can someone point me in the right direction, Thanks
  21. Yeah your right morris, the wheels on it don't look bedford either!!
  22. It looks like an MW with a cab on as the bonnet is flater than an OY, But i think thats down to the non bedford cab fitted. Looking at the petrol tank it's an OXD but its been rebodied, I think kpt Higgins has one like that.
  23. Do you have the model number of the lamps you want jules?
