  1. What a terrific job. The T looks fantastic.
  2. SURELY even as a source of parts that lot has a value and there's no danger of them getting into the wrong hands as complete vehicles. Piled like this they're just ruined.shows how wasteful governments/military can be.
  3. I recall there being an article (possibly by Bob Morrison) a while ago in Land Rover Owner magazine. I think it was last year. Maybe contacting them www.lro.com might shed some light?
  4. Well naturally I've got chacolate ones-the more calories the better  I like Peter Kay's routine- " It's a better class o' biscuit an 'ob nob. The Marine o't biscuit world" :-D
  5. :rotfl::rotfl::tup:: Good to know the clubhouse is secure! Hob-nob anyone?
  6. Mine expired a couple of days ago after 1035 days. Thought it might be some kind of scam as 1035 days seems like an odd number to choose. However the link and new password worked straight away... Maybe someone can shed some light on this if it is something associated with keeping the forum users up to date?
  7. I grew up near the USAF bases of Mildenhall and Lakenheath and wouldn't be surprised if large 'dumping sites' of vehicles and equipment were found. It would be great if the Spitfire was unearthed though....
  8. Enjoyed this thread and two fantastic Beetle restorations too. Thanks

Hear Hear! Which engine are you running Rangie? 2.8, 3.3? Surely not the 4.2? :wow:
  10. Hi mate. Do you mean Difflock.com? Not quite sure but here is a link http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=mtl+gear+oil&_sacat=See-All-Categories You may be able to find it cheaper by shopping around. Be warned it's not cheap but if you're keeping the car it's a worthwhile investment in my opinion. did quite a bit of research before splashing the cash and the general consensus is that it is much better than using lower quality oil with additives which promise quieter smoother running etc. Only my personal opinion (I don't sell it :cheesy:) but it improved my Discovery gearchange, especially when cold by a country mile. ONLY to be use to replace auto transmission fluid found in the later main gearboxes. NOT for transfer box. Daz

What we need is advice from French lorry drivers. Didn't they bring France to a standstill not so long ago?
  12. Thanks Sean I'll look into it :
  13. This subject may have been touched on before, but I can recommend MTL gear oil for later Land Rover main boxes (Normally filled with ATF). I have been trying it for some time in a Discovery 1 with a very graunchy gearbox and it has made it a much nicer, quieter box to use. It is expensive and seemingly only available in small bottles, but cheaper than a rebuilt box if things are not beyond repair. Available from the big auction website.
  14. Not wishing to be unhelpful, but could you not take the battery home with you when the vehicle is laid up if light is an issue in the barn? You can at least keep an eye on it. I'm not keen on leaving anything on charge or even battery connected for long periods unattended. This stems from a completely unnoticed starter motor fault causing one of our coaches to start up in the middle of the night. If we hadn't lived on site and rushed out to stall it and disconnect the battery it would have caught fire. The starter would not disengage and was smoking like a good'un. Was only a lad then but been cautious ever since!:undecided:
  15. Agree with all the above info about testing the IRD etc.. I'm a Land Rover man through and through but had a SWB 3.1 Trooper for the last couple of years and it was brilliant. Nothing fancy to go wrong. More truck like than the Freelander. The 3.1 is the one to go for rather than the later 3.0 due to diesel getting into the sump and blowing engine (Isuzu recalled most). HOWEVER I think the LWB Trooper will be quite a bit bigger than the Freelander. You pays your money....:-D
  16. Thanks for posting those photos. Is a full restoration on the cards for the Diamond T?
  17. Agreed. The one basic platform approach seems to have been lost even on the Defender to some extent. I can't help feeling more attached to the older landies I've owned which have all had a basic mechanical set up (and in this I include the first Discoveries) which in turn are more easily fixable, even if it is only a 'get you home' repair. They're not perfect I know but you get an intimate knowledge of the workings of the vehicle. The series 2 Discovery I just bought is still reasonably simple mechanically, but with all manner of electical/hydraulic systems bolted on. It's far and away a better car on road and for family use but I find myself being a lot more careful with it as I perceive it to be a bit more fragile than anything else I've had, although the family heritage is clear in that the sunroof still leaks....don't you love 'em? Wouldn't drive anything else! Sorry got off topic somewhat
  18. absolutely! What was Land Rover's saying - "Evolution not Revolution"!! Didn't it take ten years to put four doors on the Range Rover...:banghead:
  19. This local van driver was experiencing a nasty flare-up of (Pachy)-dermatitis.....
  20. would there have been a different requirement for different vehicles Tony? ie would vehicles perceived to have "lighter duty" roles have been equipped with the Rover axle and vice versa for the Salisbury? I didn't know the Rover axle was still being used in '81 on LWB vehicles so I've learned something today!
  21. What a great thread. That's going to look fantastic when finished. Just out of interest what wiring did you use for the new loom as my Explorer will need a complete new one. I know some people have used 7 core cable as a substitute if not going back to military spec. Hope that ankle gets better quickly and work continues well. daz
  22. Not disputing that Mike, but a civvy 1977 109 I had had a Salisbury on the back. Possibly to deal with the formidable power of the 2.25 diesel....:rofl:Could have been retrofitted as anythings possible with a Landy :nut:
