  3. Just arrived in the Solent today after the "hittting a rock" incident on December 16 last year off the coast of Chille, Endurance was towed to the Falklands, before being hitched on to a heavy-lift ship for the long journey north back to her home-berth of Portsmouth. Paul
  4. Yes I was there when the Iowa went out, she was open to visitors over the weekend so went onboard for a look round. You don’t get ships visits anymore like you used to when all the navies of the world came in to Pompey. We used to get a carrier nearly every year, I think the last one was the Enterprise or Nimitz. That is when they used to have big exercises with NATO every year and so many ships came in they had to dock in Southampton as well......those were the days. Paul

  13. Dont forget gear was issued as new at some point, so it would look new. Go on be a devil pretend you have just been kitted out with all new gear from the QM ready for the start of a new operation. Other than that as stated before just wear the stuff around the garage/garden, soon gets dirty. My two pence worth Good luck with your re-enactment. Paul

  21. Hi, Just a bit of info. As you most likely know that is not the official Jupiter’s badge. That looks like an unofficial 3E gunners mess trophy. Golly was the term for electronic warfare ratings if I remember correctly. I think the Jupiter Association would be very interested in hearing about this find. http://www.hmsjupiter.co.uk/ Sorry not much to go on. Best wishes Paul
  22. Hi Tony, Where were those pictures taken and is that Colins truck in the middle, just wondering as I think we live in the same area? Best wishes Paul
  23. Looks the same as my old RN one, not sure on the service number though, is that navy? mine started with a single letter 6 numbers and another single letter late seventies era? try looking for the service number on a search engine, perhaps war graves site.
